Gardner Staff Writer Joel El Ojo Fino or The Exquisite Eye is a beautiful collection of world-renow- n photography taken by famous Mexican women. My assignment was to review the display of this artwork, currently showing from now until April 30 at the Salt Lake City Library. Having taken a beginning photography class and having studied some basic art history, I am appreciative of the beauty that can be captivated in still-lif- e photography. After a few minutes of searching for the location of the exhibit, I was finally directed to the fourth floor of the library. The artwork is on display in a small, finely- room, separate from the normal library setting of books and people. The mood of the room immediately intrigued me, and the lighting drew me to the photographs. Each of the photographs is black and white, and almost all have people as the subject. The first photograph I observed was taken by Lola Alvarez Bravo a picture of a child sleeping quietly on a blanket in a cobblestone alleyway, covered by a black I recommend anyone who wishes to expand his or her appreciation of world culture to visit this exhibit. David Baddley, assistant professor of photography at Westminster College, will give a gallery talk on April 7 at 7 p.m. in the gallery, not only for art students, but for anyone hoping to engage themselves.ca Reading the available pamphlet,-- learn that Bravo mentored and influenced some of the later photographers in this exhibition. Im amazed at how intimate these pictures are, said a fellow observer, who called himself Lee. Some of these images capture the reality of who the people were. Its beautiful.
