Show Opinion W4 The Forum 2 mmm sandwiches and outstanding Photo by Maritza I, Hererra By Jason Helme Staff Writer On a Roll Deli is definitely on a roll! In business for the past five years. On a Roll has been serving the Westminster community with excellent service. They are located a block away from the Westminster campus on the corner of Blaine Ave. and 11th East. You know that accursed roadblock that keeps students from a timely shortcut from the parking structure to 11th East? Well, that's Blaine Avenue and On a Roll is located down the street. Anyway, they are within walking distance and provide a great alternative to the cafeteria. They are only open for lunch from the hours of 11:00 and AM to 3:00 PM Mon-Fr- i. 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday. Part owner of the family business, Kim Marron, says that Westminster students prove to be a huge part of the deli's everyday business. "We defi nitely see a decrease in patronage during the Holiday Season," said Marron. When asked about business in the summer, she replied that because of the increase in construction, business has been doing quite well, and with reason. On a Roll Deli offers a plethora of choices for their sandwiches. What makes this place different from any other sandwich shop I've been to is that they charge a flat rate for their sandwiches. That's right, you can ask for any single or combination of meat and the sandwich will still cost you the same price. Half a sandwich is $3.75 and a whole is $5.95. Let me tell you, these aren't your ordinary wussy little sandwiches either; these are more for the Dear Editor, Professor Susan Cottier has displayed hypocrisy in her campus wide email regarding Lei Day. It is this latest disregard for common sense and courtesy that is the subject of this letter. The purpose of Lei day, in my opinion, was not to. typecast anyone wearing the leis but to provide a visual representation of the homosexual community and to promote tolerance. What I cannot tolerate though, are responses like hers to innocuous activities such as Lei Day. email was against Westminster College's Appropriate Her campus-wid- e use of Electronic Mail policy. To quote from the Information Technology Responsible Use of College Computing and Networking Resources document (section 5.3), electronic mail: "Are courteous and polite; Do not contain obscene, offensive or slanderous material; Do not unnecessarily or frivolously overload the email system" Her email did all of these. As per the instructions in the "Lei Day Explanation and Disclaimer" email, concerns or questions were to be addressed to Cindy Akana, Director of Campus Ministry, or Kathy Tyler, Counselor: notice the entire campus was not a choice. Prof. Cottier has violated campus email policy and ignored appropriate ways to express her feelings. She has not only publicly humiliated Cindy, but also the 15 members of the diversity dialogue group who took part in organizing this activity. Prof. Cottier does not like it when others publicly humiliate her; why does she think others would appreciate it as well? Regardless of whether or not Lei Day was a good idea, she shouldn't have sent that email to everyone. As for a later addendum to her email, which was not sent to students but only Cindy, Faculty and Staff, it is too little, too late. In fairness to Prof. Cottier, I have included it below for EVERYONE to read: "Ms. Akana is taking a lot of heat. As a recent recipient of a very public and humiliating letter to the editor of THE FORUM, it might be prudent to find out exactly who is responsible for this faux pas that did not help those it was designed to help. If it was not Cindy Akana, I apologize to her for assuming it came from her office. It follows that whooever is responsible should step forward and take the heat off of Ms. Akana." November 7, 2000 likes of Rulon Gardner! If going with a friend, I suggest going in on a whole that can be split between the two of you. n on the Here's a sandwich selections offered at On a Roll: Turkey, Ham, Roast run-dow- Beef, Egg Salad, Pastrami, Corned Beef, Tuna Salad, Seafood Salad, and Vegetarian. Standard condiments are mayo, mustard, cheese (American or Swiss), lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and black pepper. You may ask for red onion, pepperoni, oil, and vinegar. If you are undecided, might I recommend the roast beef and pastrami combo? It is a simply delectable sandwich! The thing that probably sets this deli apart from all of the others is the great customer service. Finally a place you can go where they actually care about you. "That's the one thing we stress here exclusive customer service," said Marron. "We know what some of our returning patrons are going to order before they even tell us." I thought it was very refreshing to see a place with that attitude. So many food service institutions act like they don't care if you're buying from them or not. So make On a Roll Deli your next stop for lunch, you won't be disappointed! I give On a Roll four stars. One for the great sandwiches, one for the excellent personable service, one for the selection of Henry Weinhardt beverages, and the last for the cool name of the server who made my sandwich (Ebba). Students who pay for a subscription to The Forum as part of their activity fees should know why no paper appeared on campus Tuesday, - Nov. 6 - Nov. 18 Faculty October 24. Art Exhibit in Jewett The paper had been printed and was in The Forum office ready to be distributed that afternoon when I discovered something in a letter to the editor that looked as if it might be libelous. I would have been in violation of my conditions of employment, the law (possibly), and my own moral code if I had allowed material I thought to be libelous to be distributed. I withheld the issue from distribution. I wish to make clear that the editor and copy editor of The Forum are not ignorant of libel law.
