Utah Symphony associ well-know- Maestro Muspratt (a native of Alberta, Canada) began his tenure as the associate conductor of the Utah Symphony last season. Prior to his appointment at the Utah Symphony, he served as affiliate artist assistant of the Saint Louis Symphony. Muspratt has been the recipient of numerous awards both as conductor and pianist In 1983, and then again in 1984, he was winner of the Johann Strauss Prize for advanced study. During that time he studied at the Vienna Conservatory of Music. In 1986, Muspratt was a conducting fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and in 1987, he participated in the advanced conducting program at the Tanglewood Instil Comedian Elayne Boosler To Appear At Kingsbury Hall by Calvin L. Harrington Forum staff writer Elayne Boosler, Rolling Stone sQueen of Comedy, returns to Salt Lake City for one show only at Kingsbury Hall, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. Boosler is well known nationally for her hilarious appearances on the late-nigshows of Johnny Carson, David Letterman and Arsenio Hall. Her reputation for providing more laughs per minute than any other stand-u- p comic was first gained with performances on Showtime, HBO and Night Court. Even though she came with a bag of Beehive jokes, Boosler became one of Utahs favorite comedians last year with a stand-u- p two-horoutine which received a standing ovation and rave reviews from, local critics. Some of her comments on Utah: I have been here one entire night and I am not pregnant Another time she quipped, Someone told me the birthrate here was second only to India and, My favorite store today was. Maternity Gowns for the Mother of the Bride. The coup de grace: Whats the drinking law this week? Boosler asked. You can only drink in the ht ur trunk of your car on a Tuesday night. Boosler always covers a wide variety of sexuality subjects including male-fema- le and relationships, diets, shopping, political issues such as abortion and the environment, crime and drugs, aging, her parents, and more. She very rarely uses the same material in her routines, and amazingly enough, she uses only a modicum of profanity. For the latter alone, hers is regarded nationally as a class act One of her favorite comments concerning the environment: How can you expect men to get oil off the surface of the ocean when they cant get their socks and is under the auspices of the Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) and appropriately, student discount tickets can only be offered to U of U students and faculty members. under-performan- ce tute. Muspratt held two conducting positions in Germany (this summer he returned to conduct Mozarts Cosi Fan Tutte). He has guest conducted major symphony orchestras in Detroit, New Orleans, Rochester, Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Calgary. The piano concerto on the entirely Mozart program was written for a mysterious woman in Mozarts life (Mademoiselle Jeunehomme). Not much is known about her except that she was a virtuoso on the keyboard, but this mysterious inspiration does not detract from the beauty or longevity of this piece. Symphony No. 23 was written by Mozart to entice impresarios to hire him as an opera composer. Although it was written when he was very young, it is brilliant, lightweight and still delights audiences today.
