Show Homecoming offers full week of excitement by Ginny Gale the afternoon, and the girls will be cheered on Tuesday, October 20, marks the beginning of 1987 Homecoming celebrations at Westminster College. At 11:00 a.m., there will be a ground breaking ceremony for .the new Wilbert L. and Genevieve Gore School of Business, to be built where Ferry Hall once stood. Next, on Thursday, President Dick will host a reception and charitable-givin- g seminar, sponsored by Westminster and IDS American Express. Discussion will center on the different ways institutions can make charitable contributions. It will be held in Carleson Conference Center at 6:30 p.m. At 8:00 p.m., a violin recital will be performed by Utah Symphony First Violinist John Thompson. According to the Deseret news, Thompson controls a flexible, strong technique which encompasses both the solidity needed for sustained simplicity, and the bravura to ignite the appropriate fireworks. the recital will take place in Nunemaker Place. On Friday, the Westminster Soccer Team will host Metro State in the Dane Hansen at 3:30. Then at 6:30, there will be a social and reunion dinner for the Westminster hour class of 37( held in the Manford A.'Shaw Center. At 7:00, a reception will be held for the class of 57, at the home of Tom and Mary Jane Cork. The address is 34 Dorcester Drive, in Salt Lake. There will be a charge of $5 per person to help defray expenses. Also at 7:00 a reception will be given for the class of '67. It will be held in the Carleson Conference Center, and there will be a $5 charge. On Saturday. October 24, the traditional powder puff football game will be played in the Dane Hansen Stadium. It will begin at 1:00 in Sta-.diu- m by an pep squad. That evening, there will be a Homecoming DinnerDance, held at the Doubletree Hotel, located at 235 W. South Temple. During the evening, there will be an awards presentation, and a homecoming king and queen will be announced. The musical entertainment for the o dance will be provided by the popular Joe Band. Muscolino promises there will be music to suit everyones tastes, from big band n music to 60s music to contemporary dance music. The cost for the dinner and dance will be $25 per person. For those persons who prefer a shorter evening, the Westminster College Symphonic Band will be giving their premiere concert Saturday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Payne Gym. The band consists of outstanding musicians from the community as well as music students from the University of Utah and Westmister College. The band will feature motion pictures themes, including "How the Breakfast at Tiffanys, West was Won, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rocky, Dune, and some tunes from James Bond movies. From Thursday, October 21 through Sunday, October 25, they will be presenting of Neil Simons The Good Doctor, with curtain time at 8:00 p.m. in the Jay W. Lee Courage Theater in Converse Hall. Halloween activities for more Jennifer Killian further information. - Children fill up with excitement each year as Halloween approaches because it is the time for throwing parties, dressing up, scaring friends and attending carnivals. But children arent the only ones taking advantage of the holiday fun. Westminster students are also looking forward to many activities surrounding the holiday. On Halloween night there will be a costume dance at the Airport Hilton Inn from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Hors doeuvres will be served, s for drinks. along with Terry, a disc jockey, will provide the music. The handicapped children from Camp Kosto-polare also going to be escorted to Hogle Hall for the Halloween activities. Once again, the residents of Hogle Hall will hold their hall decorating contest. Each floor decorates its lounge around a particular Halloween theme, then faculty and staff members judge and award first, second and third prize. All residents are invited to participate in decorating the lounge of their is floor. An activity that students may enjoy anytime from now until Halloween is the Institute of Terror haunted house.
