Show Page 8 Forum September 30, 1983 Alumnus Begins 1983-8- 4 Residents Programs Distinguished A Westminster alumnus and a From Tanner distinguished Professor of Mathematics, Leslie R. Tanner, will return to Westminster as a part of the Distinguished Residents Program, Oct. 3 through 7. Tanner, now a professor of Mathematics at the College of Idaho, is scheduled to speak to classes at Westminster during the week of Oct. 3, according to Martha Springer, assistant director of the Distinguished Residents Program. Springer said that the Distinguished Residents Program hosts persons who are distinguished in their fields for the purpose of complementing and enriching the academic programs at Westminster. Tanner graduated with a bachelors degree in Mathematics from Westminster in 1958. He received his masters degree in Mathematics from the University of Utah in 1966 and his Doctorate in Mathematics from the University of Georgia in 1974. CLASSIFIEDS taught Mathematics at Westminster. Tanner has also taught Mathematics at Jamestown College and the University 1958-196- 2, of Georgia. While at Westminster during the first week of October, Tanner will speak to Logic, Math and Computer Science classes. Instead, he took third place in Business Administration and received an invitation to compete in Phi Beta Lambdas national competition. Phi Beta Lambda, the collegiate counterpart to Future Business Leaders of America, annually holds state and national competitions among its member colleges and universities in a wide range of business-relate- d fields. Westminster College business club members competed for the first time last year. Alan Rogers, associate professor of accounting, said Westminster would have done even better last year, had more than four people competed. Rogers graded tests for the Accounting Competition.
