The two losses came against Northwest Nazarene College and Colorado College. The first game in Idaho on September 15 turned out to be a 1 loss at the hands of Northwest Nazarene. The only thing that was close in this contest was the number of shots on goal with the Parsons having 13 and 4-- Northwest Nazarene 18. The second game at Caldwell against the College of Idaho on September 16 gave the Parsons their only win. The 1 score was a reversal of the score in the previous game. Westminster fired a barrage on the opponents goalie with 44 shots on goal. Scoring the goals for Westminster were freshmen Ted Rickard, Allen Stenquist, Robert Alan Darden and Steve Egbert. On the chilly evening of Sept. 17, many students came to socialize, show their school spirit, and warm themselves at the bonfire sponsored by the soccer team and cheerleaders, preceding the Parson's return to the friendly confines of Dane Hansen Stadium on Sept. 18. The Colorado College Tigers won the Sept. 18 game by a score of Jaques Lemvo used fancy footwork in scoring all of the Tigers g oals, before leaving the game with 12 minutes left to play. The school from Colorado Springs is a NCAA Division III team and is ranked number eight in the country. Colorado College coach Horst Richardson said, Our players moved the ball with confidence and were in control the whole game. Allen Stenquist, Bobby Kehl, and Hamid Sarshar leave the field after a recent soccer game. Education Program Changes Like the rest of the college, the Education Department, headed by Ron Cohn, Ph.D., has gone through some changes. The department has been for two reasons: to make the department more and more easily tracked in the overall college administration; and because there was a loss of one faculty position, which left the remaining faculty with more work, according to Patricia Whitfield, faculty member. Education majors had previously been required to take modules that consisted of methods, concost-effecti- ve tents, and professional development subjects. Now there are two components: methods and professional growth classes. The number of hours required has been changed for EL majors from 40 to 41 and for SEC majors from 25 to 28. Im impressed with the changes...I think they will be effective in the long run, said Becky Nelson, junior Education major. There are now two returning faculty members and two new ones: Cohn, who has been at West minster for seven years, is the Head of the Education Department. Cohn is responsible for the Secondary Education Department and the Graduate Program. Whitfield, who has been at Westminster for four years, is responsible for Elementary Education. Charles Glore comes to Westminster College from Golden, Colorado, where he was Department Chairperson at a college there. Glore is responsible for Secondary Education and also teaches Beginning Spanish II. Mike Piburn is new to Westminster College and comes from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Piburn was director of Science Education at Rutgers. At Westminster, Piburn is responsible for Elementary Education. The changes made in the department are not really drastic, but were needed to benefit the department as well as the students, according to faculty. Arizona High School Todd Coyle. Without his kamikaze defense, the outcome might have been worse. Westminster Coach Ben Rodriguez said, We are very glad to have Todd on our team. The Parsons missed the defensive play of former goalie Tom Ross, who withdrew from the All-Stat- er team for personal reasons, according to Rodriguez. Sidelined with a leg injury sustained in the Nazarene game on Sept. 15 is Gregory Morancey, a freshman from Phoenix, Arizona. i Intramural Tennis Tournament is now in progress.
