Show September 30, 1983 Forum Page 3 Campus Supports Two Theaters Westminster's two separate theater groups, the Campus Community Theater (CCT), and the Westminster Players, are both planning producto students and public, this tions, fall. Although the two theater groups differ in many respects, both are dedicated to high standards of entertainment and stage craft instruction, according to directors. The CCT will present Macabre II, a Halloween presentation consisting of four, one-aplays free-of-char- ge ct Lynne Blue and Charlie Blue meet with Players. Below, Players first attempted tragedy in last falls production of King Lear. Above, The Red Key, the Monkey's Paw, The Storm, and The Wraith. This production is scheduled for Oct. 28, 29 and 31, at 8 p.m. in Nunemaker Place, according to directors, Scott Snow, president, and Dick Shepherd, executive producer. CCT member Laurie McAuliffe says, ilThe Red Key will leave the audience hanging on the edge of their seats, because there is no conclusion. McAuliffe will be playing Karen, one of three actors in the one-ac- t. The Players have 40 members, about the same number as last year, Blue calculates. Twenty-fiv- e will be acting in the first play. The remaining members will be working on set construction and technical aspects. We are an amateur theater with a professional attitude, said Snow and Shepherd about CCT. Members need the abilities to adapt, to strive for excellence, to adhere to scheduling, and to recog.-niz- e authority, Snow said. Students and.com- munity members who are interested in getting involved with CCT can contact Snow, or Shep- herd, or any other CCT member. V Westminster students can join the Players by enrolling in a theater course. We try to learn how to inspire the creative process and to develop each students social interaction and human relation skills, Blue said. We seek the true meaning of dedication and the courage of involvement. The Players will be presenting The Good Woman of Setzuan by Bertolt Brecht on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m. according to Associate Professor of Theater, Lynne Blue. Blue is assisted in directing the Players by Greg Floor. All of the Players performances are held in Courage Theater on the 16-1- i Jiii.wiiiJii ...m .inn WniPi f ' w i " second floor of Converse Hall. Alicia Dechart will have two parts in the Players production, the good woman Shen Te and her cousin Shuita. Dechart, in referring to the Players, says, We are really excited to be putting it on (the production) it will be a mixture of veterans and people who have never been seen on stage before. According to Dechart, That is what Courage Theater is all about, giving people that courage to stand on stage in front of others. The CCTs cast and crew include both WestThe Players minster students and include only Westminster theater students, past and present. The CCT is now comprised of 29 active memand 2 alumni, bers; 14 students, 13 according to members Kevin Payne and James Rockley. This number compares with four members at the same time last year. At the end of last year, the CCT had a total of 60 members. This year Snow predicts by the end of Summer Stock, approximately 100 actors will have performed with the group. non-studen- ts. non-studen- ts Students Write Parking Rules New parking regulations effective Sept. 1, 1983, require students to register their cars and purchase a decal to park legally on campus, according to regulations reprinted on this page of the Forum. The Committee for Reviewing Parking at Westminster, was formed by Dean of Students, Debbie Jenkins, in answer to complaints about hap- hazard parking on campus. Mike Doom chaired the parking committee which included Howard Mitchell and Tom Moser, students; Mike Sonshine, faculty; and Bryan Larsen, head of the Colleges Security staff. Last winter we had people parking in handicapped zones; dorm students couldnt park because someone else was in their space or blocking aisles it was inconvenient to the whole student body, Doom said. I checked with Security about parking regulations, but there were no rules. When Doom suggested to Jenkins that something be done about the parking, she countered by asking him to chair the committee. He accepted. The committee met during April, 1983, to complete a proposal before spring break. The proposal, approved by College President James E. Petersen, and members of his staff, was titled, Campus Traffic Regulations, and included by Jenkins in the 1983-8- 4 student handbook. Copies of the Regulations are posted in Shaw Center and in other buildings throughout the campus. According to Larsen, illegally parked cars will be ticketed. Illegal parking is defined in the Regulations, which are reprinted with this article. The Regulations also discuss allocation of revenues from parking sticker sales. Richard Brockmyer, director of plant operations, says of the changes, I feel they are very effective. We have made a marked improvement. At this time last year we had quite a few more problems. One student said, I dont have qualms now, though lots of students think they shouldnt have to pay. Last year was awful this can only be an improvement. Dick Shepherd, Kevin Payne, and Lorie Taylor (left to right) read lines for CCT production of Monkeys Paw.
