Thats disappointing to Forum staff members, because the regulations ask an unfair price of student car owners. The formation of a set of regulations may well benefit all student car owners, and the Forum can appreciate the logic of assessing costs of regulation and parking lot upkeep to lot users. Only student users are now paying the costs, however. Faculty and staff members are issued parking stickeiy, for at least their first cars, at no charge; yet their cars cause the same wear and tear on facilities as do students cars. Also, persons with two cars are asked to pay additional fees, without any hint as to how they might get any additional service out of the bargain. Maybe tow the extra car onto the lot?...no, that would probably impede the normal flow of traffic, a regulation no-nThe inequity of who is assessed aside, though look at where the assessments will go: only 50 of costs. The the fees will pay for parking-relate- d 50 is a reserve fund for student use. This is outrageous. Student car owners already have additional expenses for upkeep of their vehicles. Now, they are asked to pay an increase in tuition and student activity fees that is not MUST have a PaRKtMG stz charged to students without cars. L The Forum would welcome a letter from any- one involved in the formation of the new regulations to explain why he or she feels that only student car owners should pay for benefits which will be shared by persons with and without cars equally. However, poor attendance didnt dampen Evans enthusiasm. Were going to give the school something tangible, something the whole student body will be able to use, and were going to have a good time doing it, he said. Suggestion forms for input about the senior class gift, baccalaureate, and graduation, were circulated at the Sept. 12 meeting. The forms are available in Evans ASWC mailbox, and he encourages students who missed the meeting to stop by ASWC and fill out a form. To pay for their senior class gift, the class of 84 f7x must raise funds, $300 of which will be matched by the ASWC budget. Evans would like to have several this year. He suggests the sale of sweatshirts as a beginning point. Senior Stephanie Panos recommended Westminster night at a local private club to raise money. We need everyones support, she said. Kathryn Darrow, senior, thinks the class is off to a good start because meetings are already being organized, but more support is needed at the meetings. Lets not make apathy our senior theme, said fund-raise- rs Bob Marselle. Watch future issues of the Forum for upcoming senior class meetings. Kuusisto brought up the grading plan again this fall and it was unanimously approved by the faculty. The new system applies to all students, except those who are returning to make up an incomplete class grade, said Sheryl Phillips, registrar. The new grading system will not effect previous grades. It is only the fall grades that will be on the new system. The previous grades will be averaged with the new fall grades to get a cur- rent GPA As a former teacher, I prefer it, said Kuusisto. It gives an instructor a sense of more accuracy. But what do students think of this new system? Guy Sebastian, senior, said that he hasnt heard anything about it. Freshman Cathy Shultz said, I like it, but then again I really havent heard anything about it. |
