Show I Sun Advocate, Price, Utah Thursday, May 3, 1973 that prays together stays together. The family Feature Cooperative Religious Cordinoted by: (C) Western Press Association A 1973 "home evening" COULD BE THE ANSWER This is also the time for the family council and the free expression of all family members, to discuss their differences, reach a united decision and plan family projects. "My professional activities," wrote a noted psychiatrist, "brings me In contact with many families that have problems. It was a most refreshing experience to receive the Family Home Night Manual and to look over the lesson material it contained. Most of the problems I try to settle for parents and children could be avoided or promptly settled If families could be brought to understand and live at least the first three lessons In this handbook. Inferior feelings, trying to be somebody else other than one's self and failure to believe In repentance create the background of most of the problems I find In families. The Mormon Church Home Night is the most effective preventative program I have seen." (Dr. Carlos Madsen) "Just as a temple Is more beautiful In a storm or In Christ is more glorious In times of Inso of the Jesus Gospel heavy fog, ward storm, personal sorrow and tormenting conflict," says Harold B. Saints. "When Lee, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-dathe density of the fog of doubt and uncertainty puts fear into our hearts, as It is doing to so many these days, God's eternal light of truth is more beautiful than ever before because of our greater need." In a letter received recently from the executive secretary of a large Christian denomination, who had been studying the Family Home Evening Manual, this noted clergyman said: "The Family Home Evening Program of the Mormon Church has lifted and inspired our Brazenly and arrogantly loud and clear come voices from strange and familiar places, attacking traditions and fundamentals, old standards of nobility and honesty, contending that all these are outmoded, no longer applicable, and may be abandoned with old ways and patterns of behavior. The voices we hear declaring such iniquitous doctrine are pagan, iconoclastic and false. They are entertaining and persuasive voices, and they come from Individuals quite devoid of spirituality. These voices have been heard coming from Illuminated screens, radio, classrooms Carbon Fuel, Inc. Martin Commercial Tire Co., Inc. The Men Who Know Tires Best Nick Carter, Manager and even pulpits. Such agnosticism Is grievous to many parents whose hearts are truly moved toward a love of their children and all young people. It Is distressing to many good teachers and fine and devoted men and women all over the face of the earth who honestly try to help youth to speak up honestly and honorably. But still, the voices many of our young people are hearing are the voices of conspiring and deceitful men who seek profit at of youth. the expense of the future and It Is altogether possible, and most likely, that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints (Mormon) has the answer In part at least to this alarming problem. For half a century or longer the leaders of this Church have counseled with parents to gather their children around them In a weekly home evening and there teach them the truths of salvation honesty, sobriety, Integrity and charity. The late Mormon President out Wllford Woodruff promised that if parents would do this, "ninety-ninof every one hundred children. . .will observe them through live." The First Presidency of the Church has directed members In an Intensive effort to observe faithfully the Family Home Evening and present the messages contained in a carefully prepared lesson book. One evening each week all meetings, socials and other activities are discontinued. In the home, the family, led by the father, engages In a family home night which consists of scripture reading, singing, the presentation of the lesson, playing games, In prayer and concluding with refreshments. The children take turns giving the lessons and the prayers and In the singing and In preparing and serving the refreshments. A record Is kept and the duties rotated so that any member of the family knows well In advance what he Is to do on any given home evening. The Family Home Evening can do much to clear the dark clouds of doubt, dread and fear that enshroud so many of our Father's children. There is hope for all as long as parents teach their children to be honest, true, virtuous and chaste; to seek after all things that are virtuous, lovely and of good report; that we are all the children of God and that as His children we have the spark of divinity within us which makes It possible for us to attain Immortal heights by living according to the teachings of our Lord and Master.
