Other entries were Doris Morley, Elsie Van Wagonen and weekend for the boats, watch for them Thursday headed for Green River and the Friendship Cruise weekend. The trip down the Green and to Moab is one of the most picturesque jaunts a person can take. The scenery in Canyonlands National Park is fabulous, one of the few areas still unmarred by the ravages of man. This is one trip everyone should take at least once. The stop over at Anderson Bottom on Saturday night is one of fellowship and good will. This writer has made the trip twice and looks forward to when another opportunity may come up to make it This is the and Friday, all Memorial Day up the Colorado e With a big helping hand from a cooperative weather man, the enthusiastic girls track and field teams from the two high schools and three junior high schools of the Carbon School District had their day on the Carbon High stadium field last Wednesday. The meet was under the direction of Mrs. Charlene Dupin, Carbon gills physical education instructor. The final team totals in the high school division showed Carbon overwhelming East Carbon 144 to 27 and Mont Harmon winning the junior high division with a team total of 97 points. East Carbon totaled 57 points and again. sss Without question one of the outstanding prep performances of the year locally was turned in by East Carbons Carl Cochrane in his specialty, the shotput. His greatest effort came in the state Class B meet in the U stadium a week ago when he heaved the shot 5553,4, the furthest anyone from a Class B school had ever put it. Although this mark did not break the state record for the shot as no distinction is made between Class A and B records, it was a mighty performance for the Viking athlete who also had outstanding records in football and basketball for East Carbon. Cochrane had some help from speedy Walter Lewis in dash to place the state meet, who placed second in the East Carbon well up in the final team totals. 100-yar- d June 50 yd. dash Cathy Kloepfer, TAnn Phelps, Vickie Topolovec. two-da- t Helper Junior High 20 m the junior high meet. This is about par for the course when it comes to some Region Four schools and their relationship with Carbon. Had their school won the baseball title the names surely would have gone in. It is a downright shame that Gary Hnbar and Steve Powell will not be accompanying Stephen Cowley to Ogden for the game on June 8 as this trio certainly are deserving of the honor on the basis of the past spring season. sss Fruita High School, a team that was extended to nine innings in an early season game, won the Colobefore beating Carbon rado State AA championship last week. Carbon, a state rated only one spot, and this as a utility player. Dave Walkingshaw, without a doubt the outstanding pitcher of the year for Granite, was passed over. Contrary to popular belief, this game is outside the realm of the high school activities association. Each baseball coach is asked to submit three names off his team and three off teams he has faced in region play for selection consideration. Presumably the players with the most votes get selected by the Ogden newspaper sponsoring the game. In Region Four only four coaches bothered to submit names, Coach Dennis Painter of Carbon, Spanish Fork, Springvilie, and Orem.
