Show Utah Labor Scene "As far cerned, the Christmas as labor demand is '4, cv H a k- ; con- rush is over," reported John C. Forrester, manager of the Price employment security office. Jobs made available in Utah totaled only 772 for the week ended December 16, compared to 1,425 the week before and 604 for the same week in 1960, he said. Mr. Forrester said employer reports to employment security agents indicate that current Christmas sales are the "best on record. Winter continued to take its toll of outdoor and other seasonal jobs with layoff reports in these categories totaling 1,826 for the current week. This is an increase of 605 over the week of December 9, and 188 more than for the same week a year ago (a week of fair weather). But in spite of snow and low temperatures the labor market is more buoyant than a year ago, Mr. Forrester said. He pointed out that the seasonally adjusted unemployed ratio (this ratio has all weather and other seasonal influences removed) now stands at 3.1 per cent compared to 4.1 per cent of the insured work force last year. He said this means that last years insured unemployment was approximately 2,000 higher than the current total of 6,356.
