Show Lion Coal Company General Manager Addresses Mine Safety Council Meet Arthur B. Foulger of Ogden, general manager of the Lion Coal corporation, spent a couple of days in Wattis the past week. He was accompanied by Mrs. Foulger. Thursday evening Mr. Foulger was a guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Eastern Utah t Coal Mines Safety Council, held at Carbon College, his subject being Mine Accidents from the Management's Viewpoint." Among the Wattis employees present were W. J. Hillabrant, De Lyle Batchelor, Earl McAlpine, Hilmer Jewkes, George Drossos, Frank Martini and Amie Fielding. Mrs. Robert Coleman, the former Gayle Batchelor, of Santa Ana, California, where her husband is stationed with the Navy, came by plane Thursday morning with her baby son, Robert Anthony, to spend ten days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. De Lyle Batchelor. She will also spend some time in Helper with her husbands parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Coleman. Ronald Shaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Shaw, was the graduate from Carbon high school who was fortunate enough to receive the Rotary scholarship to Carbon College. Ronald is leaving soon for Yellowstone park, where he will again spend the summer working. Robert Harris of Denver, an employee of the Silver Engineering company, arrived Monday and spent several days in Wattis in the interest of his companys con- struction work. Ray Tweddell drove to Salt Lake City last Sunday to spend Mothers Day with his mother, Mrs. Ida Bissell, and his brothpr and sisters and their families. Postmaster Mrs. Josephine Wheeler, who is director of the social and business of the postmasters of Carbon and Emery counties, arranged for and attended a dinner meeting of the group Thursday evening, May 17, at the Price cafe. Reservations were made for 30 members and guests and prominent among the guests was David R. Trevithick, postmaster of Salt Lake City and president of the Utah association; George E. McDonald, also of Salt Lake City, who is district mana- - ger of the organization. Members who came from a distance were vice presidents Wm. Woodbury and wife of Hurricane and Iona Draper of Fountain Green. Past president of the group, Ray Green of Provo, was another visitor. Mrs. Fern Barker, postmaster of Wellington, reported that Utah is the first state in the nation to have 100 per cent paid memberships. At this meeting the Wood-bury- s brought pecans and roses which they raised at their home in Dixie. Mrs. George Drossos went to Price Friday evening and attended the tea at Carbon College when Beta Sigma Phi selected and honored her husbands mother, Mrs. Irene Drossos, as the 1956 First Lady of Price. Mrs. Harold Olsen and sons, Dexter and Douglas, drove to Provo to spend Mothers Day with her mother, Mrs. L. C. Scott, and-hedaughter, Mrs. Garth Last, who drove from Salt Lake City for the day. Neldon Shaw of Wattis, who is on the Little League baseball team in Wellington, drove over to Ferron last week to play ball. The Little League team was victorious. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shaw. A business meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Nolan Olsen for the women of the Ground Observer Corps Wednesday, May 16, at which time a new schedule was worked out in regards to shorter hours. Much needed assistance will be forthcoming at the close of school when the older boys and girls will assist.
