This popular fishing lake is situated in Kane county near Cedar Breaks National Monument. The loss was recently noted as winter ice cleared from the lake. Early counts of dead fish along the shoreline place the loss at nearly 10,000 trout, with the possibility that it may go much higher. Low water conditions and the long winter freezeover are listed as chief causes for the suffocation. Navajo Lake was chemically treated by the department in 1954 to remove the large population of trash fish. It was heavily restocked with trout a year ago and has since provided excellent angling.
