Show Page Six THE Honored CARBON RELIEF SOCIETY OBSERVES MOTHERS DAY A prominent social event of last week in keeping with (Mother's Day was the Carbon stake Relief society social held Friday evening In the tabernacle recreational hall for all women of the stake. The program included: Opening song, "Mother;" prayer, Mrs. Crystal Guymon; song, Pal of My Cradle Days; piano solo, "Claire de Lune, Sharon Bigley, Wellington Second ward; resting, "On the Other Train, Joyce Colton, Price Third ward; vocal solo, "Lullaby", Mrs. Florence Jorgenson, Price first ward; talk by Jess Bryan, Tribute to Mothers; ladies chorus from Dragerton sang, "Beside Still Waters;" reading, "The Inventors Wife, Stella Davis, Wellington Second ward; soThat Wonderful Mother of lo, Mine," Margaret Naylor; reading, Mrs. Satterfield, The Petticoat, Columbia; Mothers Day readings, Mrs. Enid Bean, Price Fourth ward; a pantomime play by the Wellington First ward and a reading, "A Day for Mother, by president Storrs of Hiawatha. The new presidencies of the Dragerton and Price First ward Relief societies were introduced toy Mrs. Maude Warren, stake president. Corsages were presented to the oldest mother present, Mrs. Adella Gibson of the Price Fourth ward and to the youngest mother, Mrs. Faye Branch of Salt Lake City. Mrs, Pearl Powell received a corsage for having the largest family, thirteen children. The five Relief society maga-gi- ne agents who 'had the highest percentage in the stake were also presented with corsages by Mrs. Gerturde Edwards, state zine agent. They included Myrtle Cook .Wellington First ward who won top honors; Mrs. Vada Anderson, Dragerton; Mrs. Esther Powell, Wellington Second ward; Mrs. Louise Mabbutt, Price Third ward; Mrs. Martha J. Smith, Price First ward. The Price ward was commended for its 100 per cent visiting teachers record for 1951. Mrs. EXEMPLAR CHAPTER ADMITS NEW MEMBERS After completing four years of study, eight members of the Up-silchapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority have been admitted to the Xi Kappa Exemplar chapter. The significant candle light ceremony for the new members was conducted Tuesday night at the club room. Marghuerete Marx was in charge and the Exemplar ritual was read by Jeannette Welsh. Receiving the Exemplar pin, a yellow rose corsage and a certificate from International were Annette Cross, Enid Bean, Jerry Frandsen, Ruth Dart, Jessie Martell, Sophia M. Hayes, Jennie Felice and Darcia McDonald. Installed as new officers of the Xi Kappa chapter were Donna Truscott, president; Ruth Beroar-d- i, vice 'president; Boneta Harrison, secretary; June Bell, treasurer. A social followed the impressive program with Mrs. Gunda Reid in charge. Refreshments were served from a table attractively decorated with a center-piec- e of lilacs. Eight candles, one for each member and their corsages completed the picturesque setting. Mrs. Marx, retiring president, was presented with a small gold gavel set with pearls which she will wear with her Exemplar pin to signify that she is a great pres D. U. Special ident.- - CHORUS ELECTS OFFICERS The election of new officers was an additional feature when the memlbers of the Ladrioette Chorus met for a practice session at the college on Wednesday night of last week. Mrs. Fay Arthur was named president, Mrs. Jeannette McAlpine, vice president and Mrs. Florence Pitts, secretary. The combined choruses, the Ladrioette, the Maleodians and the college chorus will appear in a final performance on May 17. HELEN MCDONALD Castle Gate Girl Tapped by D. U. Mortar Board The Kedros chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Denver on April 30, greatly surprised Miss Helen McDonald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McDonald of Castle Gate, when she was tapped for membership with this honorary society. Each spring. Mortar Board selects the most outstanding junior woman on the 'basis of scholarship, leadership and service and their selections are not made known until the end of the May Day coronation ceremony, in this instance held in the Denver University field house. Miss McDonald is majoring in business administration. She is of .the D. U. student Y. W.C.A., vice president of the Coed Journalists, is a mentor, a member of Delta Ganna of which she will be vice president next year, and is a member of the deans advisory council. She is a graduate of Carbon high council. The judgement of the court was that he pay a fine of $45 or serve 22 days in the county jail. The defendant was committed into the custody of the arresting officer for 'the imposition of the sentence.
