THE PAGE EIGHT CONTRACTS ARRIVE FOR BEET GROWERS With present indications pointing to increased acreage and higher prices, issuance of sugar beet production contracts for 1937 was started in Carbon county Thursday (today) by the Holly Sugar company of Grand Junction. W. S. Hallam, district manager of the company, who arrived here Wednesday to begin the distribution of contracts, is confident this season will be the most successful experienced by Carbon beet growers in the countys history. The scale of beet prices provided in the 1937 contract between the sugar company and the Western Colorado Beet Growers association provides for a substantial increase in payments to farmers. Carbon growers are not affiliated with the association, but the price terms between local producers and the company will be virtually the same as those in the association contract. A large acreage is being sought this year in order that the government, under a federal act, will not reduce Accepts Salt Lake Position Miss Marion Twiss left for Salt Lake City late last week where she had been transferred to the Salt Lake office of the Northwestern National Life Insurance company. Miss Twiss has for the past year been employed by the First Federal Savings and Loan association of Price, and will continue her work with the insurance company under Eugene C. Hanson of Price and Salt Lake City. LABOR UNIT MEETS The Carbon County Central Labor union held a regular meeting Monday evening in the union hall here. The groups next session is scheduled for Friday, April 16, while the executive committe of the United Mine Workers of America will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, April 19. PRICE WOMANS FATHER DIES John Thomas Reid, 66, of Orangeville, father of Mrs. La Vern Marcus of Price, died in Provo Tuesday morning at the home of a sister, Mrs. Alice Higgs, of heart trouble.
