Show 7 The r I li SunNews. Wftrindav, March 31. 1993 Required OHV class In a couple of weeks Little Sahara Recreation Area will become a playground for thousands of vehicles, dune buggies and motorcycles as people descend on the sand dunes Eater weekend to usher in another season of vehicle (OHV) riding in Utah. Garth Taylor, OHV education specialist with the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation said Wheres a better place to hold a class on safe and responsible OHV riding than right in the middle of where its all happening? A Know Before You Go! training class is planned at the popular BLM riding area on Eastern weekend. Personnel from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, Bureau of Land Management and Juab County Sheriffs Office will be contacting riders at Little Sahara in set at is during Easter weekend and will direct riders who need the training to the training site. Kids can sign up for the trainthat weekend, but being cause they need to study a manual to prepare for the training. Id really encourage people to call us and sign up for the training in advance, Taylor said. Utah law requires that all operators from the age of eight until the time they receive their Utah driver license, must receive certification through the Know Before You Go! course before they can operate an OHV on public lands. Children under eight years of age cannot operate an OHV on public land. To become certified, minors must pass a written test and then hands-o- n attend a half-da- y class. The written test covers general informa on-si- te Little tion on OHV riding in general, while the class is designed to teach students how to properly operate their particular machine. Those outside of Salt Lake City can reach the OHV Information Centerby calling (648-7433- ). Riding OHVs is a great sport, but serious injuries and death can occur when operators arent careful, said Taylor. Following are some safety tips: Wear a safety-ratepropfitted helmet, goggles, clothes erly which cover your arms and legs, and boots, at all time while d, over-the-ank-le riding. Be sure your machine is operating properly. Dont take drugs or alcohol along for the ride. POTENTIAL CDBG "STIMULUS" FUNDING The Six County AOG announces the possibility of additional funding through the Community Development Block Grant Progam for FY 93-9These funds have not been allocated at this time, but are being considered by the State of Utah. Sahara Ride your OHV only in areas designated open for their use. Be courteous to other riders by offering the right of way and respect area that are posted. Dont carry passengers on single purpose machines. Children and inexperienced riders should always be supervised by parents. Never ride alone, and be sure someone knows where your party is heading and when they expect to return. Dont litter, chase wildlife, or damage plant life. The spring-lik- e weather tempted him to get back into the greenhouse and start getting things ready for this years growing season. He opened the door. Greeting him was the frozen carcass of a moose calf. The building is built into a side-hil- l, and the calf had stepped on - and fallen through - the Plexiglass roof. Apparently the baby moose had stayed in die greenhouse for some time, and likely died of starvation. However, before he died he caused a lot of damage inside the greenhouse.
