Show fv. i&m SALINA - ft v: t AURORA Ray Blackham, Salina sdLrfk Nancy Frame, Salina Mark Freeman, Aurora ! i i , J Aurora is enjoying a standard of living that very few area citys can olfcr. Well maintained streets, parks and water systems are only a few of the benefits Aurora residents enjoy every day. The issues facing Aurora include Ivanna Stowe, Aurora I lccl that one of the major is- sues facing Aurora is progress. We would like to keep Aurora a small, quiet country town, but we cant stand stdl and stagnate. Our lovely, quiet town must progress with the times whether we like it or not. We lost our dump and chlorinated our water. We now have street lights, fire hydrants and a great Firehouse, and vol unteer Fire Department. We are facing mak ing Main Street a State highway, and looking in to studies for a sewer system. I feel that as a woman, I can represent the other women of our community and help voice their hopes and concerns. I am not a feminist, nor do I have an axe to grind, but I do hope to gel more involved in the deci- g in and about our Community. I believe that the Public should have more input in matters that concern them. I also feel that the present Council has done a great those of leadership, and responsibility. Aurora has thrived with excellent leadership in the past, and now the residents need to gel involved, because the leadership is only as good as the people supporting it. This is where responsibility on the part of the people of Aurora comes into play. Responsibility comes with involvement. Its my opinion that all of Aurora can feel better about where they have chosen to live if they become more involved in the decisions that effect them each day. The people of Aurora have, in the past, been somewhat hesitant to bring an issue to the city council, or even to a councilmember. This is the issue we need to concern ourselves with every day. Why have representatives on the council, if we are unable to use these representatives for our benefit? I feel I have the attitude that the people of Aurora have found in the Councilmen of today. This is the attitude of humility and responsibility. Nobody knows everything, and I dont profess toj myself.' But I do know that the best way to get the people what they want, is to find out from them what they want - not tell them what is best for them or use a seat on the council for my own personal benefit. What good is a council person with only personal ambitions in mind? Once they get what they want, theyre useless to the people of Aurora. My plans are to represent the people of Aurora, attempt to increase the involvement of each person in the activities and issues of the city of Aurora. sion-makin- j job. Iwouldjustliketobcapartof that Council. Tom Bowers, Salina As residents of Salina, we face many issues. The primary short term issue is the responsible management of all our existing city services good police and fire departments, parks and ballfields, city buildings, library, medical clinic, court, airport, swimming pool and equipment. The main long term issue is to develop a diversified economic base which will sustain Salina for the long haul rather than rely on one major industry. A vision of Salina 25 years from now is needed. A plan to achieve the vision is required. To attract a base of varied livelihoods, we need facilities like the proposed indoor riding arena or a par three golf course, or a civic youth center or retirement housing. Such enhancements increase the prospect of this being the place where people want to live, work, and retire. Non-ta- x revenue (impact funding grants) that Salina deserves is available for these projects. Salina needs to promote public relations beyond our city limits. We want this town to survive. I feel 1 would be a good choice for City Council because I have worked with many different organizations and can mesh into any program. I do not believe in campaign promises. Until a candidate reaches the office and assesses the job, no accurate promise can be made or kept. I can tell you that I will work hard for Salina and will put in the lime it takes to keep Salina the best place to live. Ji f t Ortj, lzv 35l1 feel that an important issue facing Salina, is that we need to attract more people to come to Salina. Also that we need to be aware that our youth are going to other towns for recreation and for things to do. We need to bring our youth back to Salina. Our swimming pool needs to be upgraded. It could be used as a means to bring all citizens together. I feel that I am a good choice for city council because I will cast my vote and my voice for the people of the community. I will also listen to what the community has to say and will make my decisions accordingly. As to what my plans are if elected, I cant or wont make promises I cant keep. I will say that I plan to serve you citizens, and endeavor to serve the majority. Our town cannot prosper unless we are all involved and willing to go the extra mile. If elected, I will be one of your voices in the council. Salina is a great city. Lets work together to make it a city and a place to BE - not a place to be FROM. There are many issues and needs to be handled in our city, and I feel that we can solve them if we work together as a team striving for the same goals. 1 super-coloss- 1 1 al There are several issues I feel arc very important for the citizens of Salina. I feel that it is important that we put the voice of the people back into our city government. One of the major needs for the city of Salina is a master plan which will help us now and guide us for years to come. Another need is to show line item detail on all the bills that come before the city for payment. Voluntecrism is very important to the city. People have many talents which they can put to use for the good of the city. We pay taxes to assure that our city provides efficiently for the health, safety and welfare of its people. Lets be sure that this important aspect is fulfilled. I have a diversified background including 2 years with ihe Bureau of Reclamation; 10 years plant engineer at a 360-ma- n Gypsum plant, in charge of all purchases and investing; 23 years with the Soil Conservation Service as construction engineer; 15 years as Scoutmaster. I want the public more involved in city government and want them to feel that we will listen to their comments and will try to do the will of the public. I want the residents of Salina to know that the health, safety and welfare of the citys residents will be the most important concern of the city council. , Ji.l. are not taking opportunity ol. Redmond can apply for many grants from slate and federal governments for needed funds to improve our community. I would like to apply for these grants and give the citizens of Redmond the opportunity to benefit from these grants. Crane, Salina have been a councilman lor the past four years and I would appreciate the opportunity to continue in that capacity for another term. I have the experience and knowledge to carry on with projects within the city. I am a man of my word and have good relations with all the city employees as well as residents of Salina. I see that a started project will be a finished project I have and will continue to listen to residents suggestions and give of my time freely to help our city. I would like to see a long-terMaster Plan adopted for city expansion. My concern is for all age groups. 1 am anxious to work with the Youth Council and newly-forme- d S1G. We must earnestly seek industry for economic growth so our young people will be able to find work at home. I was instrumental in getting the city streets paved and I would like to see this project finished. I am actively seeking your vote and support. I Ray Heagle, Aurora The most pressing concern I have is the continuous upward spiral of property taxes, which was made even more evident by the 28 increase included in the current tax statements. Aurora City has many fixed income families, and government is taxing us out of our homes. New methods with which to pay the cost of government need to be investigated and pursued. It is imperative that Aurora City live within its means. My 25 years experience as a Corporate Controller, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer may be beneficial to the management of the fiscal needs of Aurora City. 1 would like to maintain the present friendly, rural atmosphere of Aurora City. Its residents should understand that all government services have a cost factor to them, and they should become vocally involved in the decision pertaining to all major services in the City. I feel there arc many important issues facing Salina residents. I would like to sec a Master Plan for the city implemented so that the community will know exactly where we arc headed over die course of the next few years. I would like to see the Indoor Arena project come together for the benefit of the community and to bring more business to our city. I feel the city building project is another important issue, along with the city dump and animal control. I feel I am a good choice for city council because I have been on the council for the last four years. I understand the problems facing the city. I am currently involved in projects which I would like to see completed. I feel that 1 relate well to the people in the community and I am interested in their views. I have lived in Salina all my life. I would like to see the city remain in a manner in which we would all benefit and be proud to live and raise our families in. My plans if elected arc: I would like to remain on the Committee for the Indoor Arena and see it through the most beneficial conclusion. I would also work hard on the issues stated above and any others that may arise in years to come. I would be available to the community and work to the best of my ability. I am willing to listen to everyones suggestions and comments. I have enjoyed very much my last four years, and if elected, look forward to four more years of REDMOND Ron expenses. For the past three years I have ben involved with the Farm League Teams here in Aurora, and also Cub Scouting. The youth in Aurora are important to me since four of the boys in town are mine. I feel that the main issue ahead for Aurora is whether or not to install a sewer system. I applaud the decision made by the present city council to let us, the citizens, vote on this issue. I feel that any major issue facing the city should be handled by letting the citizens decide. If I am elected to Aurora City Council, I promise to give my time to attend council meetings, and work projects, and will do the best job I can as a councilman. Robinson, Salina The Salina Sun. Wed.. Oct. 30. 1991 Hal Dee Jensen, Aurora I was bom in Salina, raised in Redmond, and now live in Aurora. We have lived here now for over eight years, and we love it here. Being from a small town I can relate with the people here in Aurora. I know what their concerns arc, and hopefully will be able to solve some of these concerns. As I have been going door to door, I have talked to many of the residents of Aurora, and I am willing to talk to any concerned citizen who wishes to discuss any problem. I have an Associate Degree in Accounting and I am eager to Find out where our revenues are coming from and what expenses we have as a city. I will be seeing if there are any places we can cut some of our Kim Kelly Johnson, Redmond As City Councilman, I would like to keep our small town of Redmond a safe and secure place to be. I feel that getting a youth program started would be helpful to the community and have the the youth become more aware of happenings of the town and help begin new projects. I feel we should finish the projects we have started before we begin new ones. With the experience I have in road construction I feel I could be an asset in that department. As Councilman, I would like to see more business brought into Redmond, and help add to the community. 1 feel I could be an asset to the Redmond City Council. Information not received from: Aurora: Lawrence Mason Roycc Mason Redmond: Ken T. Nelson People believe if Lori Rawlinson, Redmond Let me introduce myself to you. am Lori Rawlinson. 1 have lived in Redmond for 1 1 years with my husband, Gcry and my three children. I have held several leadership positions in the community as well as in the Redmond Ward. Iam a native of Utah, being bom in Cedar City and raised in Summit, a town smaller than Redmond. I am presently employed at North Sevier Middle School as an instructional assistant in the resource department, and serving as a liaison with the Sheriffs Alcohol & Drug Advisory Council. The reasons I would like to serve on Redmond Town Council arc many, since space is short Ill only name a few. I really enjoy being around and working with people, you and old. Redmond is such a great place to live and raise a family, grow old and spend retirement years. We have many advantages of living in a small town, but there arc many other advantages that we I you rub your feet with garlic, you will be healthy. such grant has been applied for and now the money is being used t improve and renovate the old Town Hall. I am anxious for this project to be under way so we can all begin to sue this building for family reunions, receptions, parties and other meetings. If elected, I will actively pursue the application of these grants, because with funds from grants we can improve our standard of living in Redmond. I like associating with people, especially young adults. I would like young adults of Redmond to have a Teen Youth Council to help them have the opportunity to serve their community in a leadership capacity. If elected I will serve the youth as an advisor to the Teen Youth Council, in establishing a council and carrying out different service projects. I will also work for the senior citizens to help them develop any programs that they are in need of. The main reason I would like to be elected to Redmond Town Council is because I want to work for you, the citizens of Redmond. I want to listen to your concerns, dreams and desires for our town, and then take what you have told me and work to make Redmond one of the greatest towns to live in. I dont have a lot of experience in Town governments, but I am young and energetic and eager to serve you. Ask yourselves not what you can do for me, but what I can do for you. 'I |
