Show T Signup dates for H.E.A.T programs The Ulah Dcpartmcnl of Human Services will open its winter utility program which is a federal funded assistance program to help people pay heating bills. HEAT (Home Energy Assistance Target Program) is designed to assist eligible households meet the rising cost of home heating. The HEAT program begins this year on Monday, November 4th for the elderly and handicapped. Seniors and handicapped may call their local Human Services offices for the nearest HEAT office. Applications arc available at most Senior Citizen Centers, utility companicsand community service agencies. Home visits are available for those who arc home bound. The general public can apply for HEAT assistance beginning Friday, November 15th. The program will continue until March 3 1 , 1992 or until funds arc no longer available. Congress is still in budget conferences, so this years program budget has not yet been determined. Payment amounts have not yet been determined. If funding is cut from last years allocation, the payment amount may also be reduced. This will mean the program will be unable to serve as many households. Last year 38,563 households received a HEAT payment. HEAT docs not pay the entire fuel cost for the winter. An eligible household can apply for just one HEAT payment per winter season. The amount depends on the type of fuel used, and household size and income. Any cost over the HEAT payment must be paid by the applicant. Applicants will need identification, social security cards for all 1 8 years or older in his household, a copy of the most recent utility bills, proof of income during the past calendar month for all household members, and proof of medical bills paid during the past month. In the Salina area, you may sign up for the HEAT program at the Salina Senior Center, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Program will discuss how to cut losses to predators In 1989, more than $2 million in Ulah livestock losses were attributed to coyotes, mountain lions bears and eagles, according to a Utah Slate University wildlife expert. Ways farmers and ranchers can cut those losses by putting into action p.m. The program will cover topics ranging from managing big game depredation in Utah to the perception farmers and ranchers hold of animal damage management, said Terry Messmer, USU Extension wildlife specialist. The free broadcast will be transmitted to 13 sites statewide. Chief Mayo Jacobsen, Richfield, reports that school zones are always a concern, especially on 1st North near Pahvant School, and crosswalks on 1st East. He added that there are about 10 injuries each year in Richfield involving children and vehicles. Because this is not a national election year, the interest in this pending election is not very high.
