Show V' Wolves take State 2nd year in a row! Continued from Page 1 carried through the second quarter, when Hallows knocked down point shots. The key to the game was North Seviers halting defense, stopping South Summit rom shooting their Final score was 0 for the Wolves. A standout in the game was Ricky Torgerson, who held South S umm its offensive threat, Frazier, to 3 points. Braithwaite led all scorers with well-know- three-pointer- s. All-Regi- n 57-4- 21 points; Hallows with 15; Torger- son, 12;p Gladwell, 5; and Shaw, 4. Hallows added assists and 9 rebounds, while Torgerson contributed 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The Wolves then watched the Final game of the evening, knowing that the winner of the game would be their opponent for the championship game. Day 4 - Saturday, March 9 Sleeping was difficult for the Wolves. The team again met with the coaches, going over game plan and game films. The coaching staff knew San Juan would come out with intensity, and wanted theteam not to underestimate their opponent, despite having defeated San Juan by 19 the previous week. Townspeople turned out in throngs to make one wonder if anyone was still back in Sevier County. Support and enthusiasm was something the team needed. North Sevier quickly relaxed as the game began, building on an 3 lead, forcing San Juan to call a time out. The wolves continued to build on that lead with a by Robby Shaw at the buzzer pushing the lead to 17-- 7 as the first period ended. At the half, the score was 27-1- 8 for the Wolves. San Juan outscored the Wolves 1 in the third quarter, bringing the score to 34-2However, the Wolves capped off the State championship by playing outstanding defense in the final quarter. With a 14 point lead, both benches cleared in the final minutes of the game. Hallows led the team in scoring 21 points, and added with game-hig- h 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Also scoring for the Wolves were Torgerson, 15; Shaw, 8; Braithwaite, 5; Mickelsen, 2; Crane, 2; Gladwell, 1; and Kjar 1. Gladwell dominated the boards with 11 rebounds and Torgerson chipped in 7 assists. As the buzzer sounded, the celebration began for the first ever state championships for North Sevier. Commitment, teamwork, sacrifice and effort all combined to make the Wolves the champion team. This also earned him a Team. place on the Brian Gladwell - His role on the team was to play defense and rebound - difficult because of his transition from guard to center during his junior year. He came on strong in the second half of the year, holding his opponents to 4 points per game at the state tournament. He led the team with 11 rebounds at the state games. His willingness to play his role and not worry about scoring is the epitome of teamwork. Robby Shaw - A player with a lot of talent and potential. With hard work, dedication, and patience, he was able to mesh into a team player. He played the game of his life in the championship game, keeping San Juans Shumway under control. Matt Crane - Matt gave the team added depth. He identified his role on the team, allowing the Wolves to have a 7th man that really makes a difference in times of foul trouble and fatigue. Matt Kjar - Matt probably had the most difficult role of all, being a senior with little playing time. He was appreciated by all for his hard He never work and dedication. 8 Thf? RnnNews. Nathan accepted the challenge, although just a Junior. He has a vast variety of ways to play against opponents - he can go inside and score, shoot on the perimeter, play defense inside or out, rebound, and handle the ball. He was a dominating force - being named Region 10 Most Valuable Player, and playing extremely well to help the Wolves earn the Championship title. Lance Mickelsen - Lance filled the important role of sixth man - so important to a teams success. He filled positions of defense, rebounding, and scoring. His biggest improvement this year was his defense. Perhaps now the success of North Sevier basketball has become less of a mystery to those who wonder about their secret of success. They are state champions. And North Sevier Basketball is here to stay! Coach Gladwell takes a moment to watch the game without showing much stress. Ricky Torgerson was the epitome of hard work. As an important sixth man last year, he was a surprise to opponents this year because he had raised his level of play. He became an offensive as well as a defensive threat. It would be hard to find someone working harder than Ricky. His competitiveness also led to a position on the team.
