GM: First, not all teenagers killed in such accidents are themselves drunk at the time. Often they have had nothing o drink at all, but are passengers in cars driven by teens who have been drinking. Second, teenagers are often on the roads late at night, especially on weekends, when most crashes involving alcohol occur. They are targets for cars driven by people who have had too much to drink. GM provides the following facts about alcohol: One can of beer, as well as one four ounce glass of table wine, and one 1.2 once drink of 80 proof liquor are all equally intoxicating. The risk is the same regardless of what youve been drinking. No matter what the legal definition of Blood Alcohol Concentration, some people can be in a dangerous condition if their BAC is .05 or even lower. Even relatively low levels of alcohol can reduce your tolerance to injury, it can also foul up your judgement skills. GM urges parents to discuss the problem of drinking and driving with their teens, and remind them that the best way to teach young people - is by example. .( -- yoooccooccecoooeooooocococooocosoocosccooccosccccoqa Get your Perm Done for all the Summer Fun Perms $20.00 Ear Piercing Ear rings Dixie's Beauty Salon 270 East 100 South - Salina 529-712- 2 ooMoscooMoeoossoooccisoosococccccccosoooooocccood Bree ' May has been proclaimed 'Older American month ' The staff at the Salina Senior Center are striving to get people involved who want to join in celebrating the services and activities taking place at our center. It is a special place to socialize with good friends, to have a good meal and be entertained by talented individuals. For those who seek companionship, health and social services, recreation, education, the arts or a meal, the senior center is an ideal place to go. A senior center can focus life for older people ; it can help people stay younger, by keeping them active in useful and helpful projects. They can join inthe programs, enlarge on their hobbies, keep up an interest in what others are accomplishing in the painting classes and perhaps try their hand at creative arts. Our center functions as service delivery for older persons to help them help themselves and each other, offering service or access to community services when needed. Our center wants to promote the g of all older persons emotionally and physically, it can help people as a referral agency to advise where to turn for aid. The first senior center opened in New York in 1943 as a place where older people could meet and associate on a neighborly basis. Soon this center introduced services for the elderly, especially services needed to keep people in their normal status in life in their homes and in their communities, not in institutions. Funds for senior centers come from a variety of sources membership, private contributions and a variety of public sources at the city, county, State and Federal levels. well-bein- Raimuen and Strfame Jactbcn were unable to attend The Junior Scout cte Rachael llrath, Cheryl Jack-- s Elizabeth m, Chrtsvy loulon. Even teens who dont drink. Often they arent aware of the facts. A new view of the statistics shows where part of the problem lies, and can lead to better communication between adults and teens, according to General Motors. Teenagers are in the high risk group. People between the ages of 16 and 24 represent only 20 percent of the licensed drivers in our country. But that same group is involved in 42 percent of all the alcohol related fatal crashes. When you think about that, two tragic things are revealed, according to ar.d Barney.
