The cost rose to $20 for a wet chemical feed quality analysis, which shows moisture, protein and acid detergent fiber in alfalfa. To determine mineral content, such as phosphorus and calcium, costs an added $5 for the first mineral and $3 for each additional mineral. Cost previously was $7.50 for a basid analysis an $3 each for mineral analyses. Were more nearly in line with our costs now, said Dr. David James, director of the lab, adding that the goal of the lab is to be self supporting. Samples are sent in from all over Utah, southern Idaho and as far away as California. It takes three days to complete a test. He urged those sending in samples to get as representatiave a sample of their hay as possible. He emphasized that the lab also tests silage, corn silage or other feeds using wet chemistry.
