Each year since 1982, compensation payments to vets with service related disabilities have been reduced. Benefits have been whittled down. Job programs have been hamstrung. And the VA health care system has been forced to operate with chronic understaffing and underfunding. The organization of Disabled American Veterans, DAV, is fighting for legislation in basically 4 areas to help vets. Fair compensation for disabilities incurred in or aggravated by military service - compensation that keeps pace with inflation. Continued and improved medical treatment for these disabilities. A decent break in the job market for disabled vets; and Humane benefits for the families, widows, and orphans of vets with service connected disaiblities. Other items include extension of low interest home loans; the establishment of an open national cemetery in every state; increase in the face value of National Service Life Insurance to $20,000; the return of Memorial Day to May 30th each year; an adequate accounting of those still missing in Southeast Asia following the Vietnam war, and the immediate return of any living 1 gives local awards Don Pendleton, District Manager for the BLM in Richfield announced the following awards were given to several employees in the District. Quality Performance Awards were given to Burke Williams and Vernon Davis in recognition of their high standards of performance over the past two years. Individuals receiving promotions were Shirley Taft, Marian Revitte an Ray Blaisdell. A Unit Citation was issued for work on the Tar Sand Program to Carl Thurgood, Alan Partridge, Ferris Clegg, Dee Ritchie, John Branch, LaRell Chappell, Wayne Hammerer, Craig Harmon, Duane DePaepe, Shirley Taft and Bert Hart. Director of the BLM Robert Burford, said that Nowhere else in government, academic or industry, is there such a comprehensive document on this potential energy source. The document will serve as a guidebook in the Bureaus review of future tar sand related applications and as a result, we can expect a streamlined and more knowledgeable review. .1 & U M I ATTENTIOW WOOL U Vt . l!,f 1,1 w i.i if Ik GROWERS!!!
