In Sevier County, hundreds of and their leaders are busily preparing for the Fair. The youth und their leaders can be found h-- iI out uie year. As the youtn receive recognition in the form of rosettes, ribbons, prize money or just good old praise, they feel that all their hard work was worth the effort. Four-Her- s learn that keeping records and compiling a record book is an important part of the program. Youth receive awards not only for their project, but also for actheir record book. Well-kep- t, curate records are used to award older youth scholarships and national trips. Sevier Countys program has both an Advisory Council made up of adults and a Teen Council. These councils work with the County Extension Office in planning and programs throimplementing ughout the year. These councils are a necessity for a successful putting the finishing touches on their sewing project, washing their show animals, working on their record books and many other activities. The week before the Fair is a busy time for and their families. Those attending included Mac and Donna McCostlin, of Carmichael, CA; Tom and Helen McCullough, of Las Vegas; Floyd and Lillian Cook, Millport, AL; Forrest and Eldean Martin, Missoula, MT; Henri and Florence Squires, Ellis and Beulah Shaheen, and Richard and Inez Criswell, all of Salina. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. John Horne, Salina; Mr. and Mrs. Van Kelley, Gunnison; and Mr. and Mrs. Flannigan, from California. A fun time was had by all. A delicious dinner was served, while a string orchestra played old time tunes. They later sat around the campfire and reminisced about past years. On the 15tb a breakfast was enjoyed. as the group broke up, many went on their way to tour parts of Canada, which was an added treat. This is a planned activity to encourage individuals to swim regularly and frequently, until 50 miles or more are reached. It is not a marathon, race, or endurance contest. Its goal is to improve the physical fitness of the swimmer and to encourage regular swimming. The Swim and Stay Fit Program is designed to contribute to the physical and mental fitness of the individual by providing an opportunity to participate in a meaningful and enuoyable activity over an extended period of time. Any person possessing a reasonable swimming ability is eligible to enroll and participate in the program. Certificates will be awarded when 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mile marks have beien reached Along with the 50 mile certificate, a pin will be given. Come and join in the Swim and Stay Fit program.
