The wire was in a field by Salina Auction. Pulice Chief Keisel was making a by Intermountain Farmers when his lights caught reflection of a taillight in the field. He took down the auto license number and came in to have it checked out. Further investigation of the premises where the wire was located, the Police found a tool box had been pried open and a wire cutter removed. The wiring had been cut into lengths from the huge spools, so they could be handled easier. There was approximately $3,000 worth of wire cut up and ready to be transported . Property Taxes Total $1,155,723 In Sevier Although the property tax commonly is regarded as a tax charged to homeowners, more than half of all property taxes imposed in Utah last year was paid by owners of commercial and industrial property. This was pointed out by Utah Foundation, the private tax research organisation, in their latest analysis of the property tax. The Foundation report, which was based on data gathered by the Utah State Tax Commission, shows that total state and local property taxes levied throughout Utah during 1973 amounted to $170,641,107. The various identifiable classes of commercial and industrial property accounted for $83,792,115, or 49. "i of this total. On the other hand, residential property taxes equaled $62,034,698. or 36.4 of this total, and agricultural property taxes were $8,284,357, of the total. or 4.9 In addition to these major categories, property taxes on motor vehicles amounted to of the $113,942,769 (8.2 total), and miscellaneous property taxes equaled $2,587,168 of the total). Motor (1.5 vehicles include commercial trucks and business vehicles as well as passenger cars and farm trucks. A significant part of the miscellaneous category also consists of taxes on business items. There is considerable variation among Utahs 29 counties in the proportion of property taxes coming from the various property sources, according to the Foundation. In Sevier County last year, total property WEI taxes levied amounted to $1,155,723. Commercial and industrial property accounted for $439,703 or 38 of this total, residential property was equal to $335,141 (29.0), agricultural property $219,447 A Clinic will be held Friday, March 22nd, beginning at 10:00 A.M. The Governor said the most efficient method to dispose of solid waste in Utahs smaller communities will remain sanitary landfills for some time because recycling does not generally woik out economically in communities with sparce population. Salina has closed its open dump and cleaned up all trash in the area. They have dug trenches which are covered periodically with tile and have received public support for disposing of solid waste in plastic bags in the trench area. Other counties receiving awards were: Weber, Cache, Wasatch, Garfield, Davis, Tooele. and Cedar City. This tax, Vi percent, along with the 4 Vi percent sales tax collected, is paid to the State Tax Commission by all motels, hotels and overnight camping trailer courts. The 1 Vi percent is returned to the respective county commissioners, to be spent in their county for advertising and promotion of tourism. Salina area residents, civic clubs and various organizations are being contacted for donations to be used for a speech aw-w- therapy clinic to be held in Richfield this summer. The clinic will be held on a four-daweek basis, Monday through Thursday, and will run 12 weeks, beginning May 14th. The instructor will be Miss Gwen Deardon, speech therapy instructor at Brigham Young University. The classes will consist of age children, three and a half to five, and one class y As sponsors of the Diabetes and Blood Pressure Clinic, the Salina Senior Citizens want to thank the residents of our area for their wonderful support. One hundred fifty-twpersons attended the clinic. With such good support, were sure we will be given the opportunity in our area for other services. Thanks to everyone. "Continued Page J FHA Adds $60,000 To Salina City Loan 1 he Farmers Home Administration has approved an additional loan of $60,000 under the rural development program to the Salina City Corporation of Salina, Utah, to complete the funding of its project to build community water and sewer systems. The agency previously has approved $240,000 of financing for the project. Loans are payable in 40 vears at an interest rate of 5 percent. Loans for rural community water and sewer projects supportive of rural development are made under the Rural Development Act of 1972 by the Farmers Home Administration, a Department of Agriculture rural water service.
