Alvin and Lydia Norr of Deweyville, for it will mark 65 years of marriage for them. The young couple travelled to the Logan LDS temple on that date in 1912 to trade their marriage vows, returning to their native Box Elder county to make their home and raise their family. Lydia Dewey Norr is a native of Deweyville, born to Joseph Ira and Emma Trisha Lindsay Dewey on Feb. 19, 1894. Her father was the son of the man for whom Deweyville was named, so shes descended from the earliest settlers of the area. Alvin Norr is also the child of pioneer parents, born to Olaf James and Lilliam J. For-sgre- FHA Former residents will The children of George A. and Florence Osborne invite friends and relatives to help them celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary at an open house at their home, 3069 Mountair Drive (3010 South), Salt Lake City, from 3 to 6 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Osborne were married on Dec. 19, 1912, in Salt Lake City. They made their home in Brigham City for many years before moving to Salt e. The two met at a dance where both were with other partners, and she laughingly adds that he asked her for a date the next evening, right in front of, his other girlfriend. In Blue Creek The young couple went to Blue Creek to farm, with those first five years of trying to pay for a farm and begin a family noted as very hard but happy times. One of his favorite tales is of the time that they wanted to attend a July 4 celebration at the Big Field in Blue Creek and didnt have any money, so she went through all his overall pockets and came up with that covered a fine day of celebration for the couple and their three little boys. They continued to enjoy dancing, and she was the organist for dances in the little Blue Creek schoolhouse. They would travel d in a buggy tilled with pjows so that the sleepy children could be transferred from school benches to the buggy for the ride home. He was Sunday school superintendent out there, too, and adds that he never missed a Sunday despite having to drive in several miles each week. Both have been active in the LDS church all their lives, with Mrs. Norrs talents as an organist used for every organization of the church. She has also served in the Relief Society ts white-toppe- presidency and in Primary, while he has been a ward teacher, stake missionary and a high priest. Horseback riding For many years, the Norrs were members of the Sheriffs Posse and performed on horseback in rodeos and parades in northern Utah and surrounding MARRIED 65 YEARS and still Lydia D. Especially fond memories come to them of the 16 winters that they spent in little Utah trailering in Mesa, Ariz. So many residents from this area winter in that community that they said going to church was just like home! Now theyre pretty much homebodies, surrounded by pictures of their six children, 19 grandchildren, 30 and five Views of Marriage As for the secret of such a long and happy marriage, Lydia Norr says it takes pate ience and lots of by both parties. He adds that his dad gave him some advice on marriage 65 years ago, If one gets mad, let the other one walk away. They havent done much walking away, but have mostly walked and ridden together. Through the years theyve shared mostly happy times, noting that theyve had only one death a killed in an accident. Most of the great-grandchi- Their six children all live nearby so theyve been able to watch the grandchildren and grow up, and each likes especially to visit Grandpa Norr since he always has a dollar as a gift. They now have three great-grandson- s serving LDS missions. The Norrs grown children include sons Myrl, Charles, Wayne and Jay in Deweyville, son Reed in Tremonton, and their only daughter Mrs. James (Cleo) Dixon in Brigham City. K Kii - memories are pleasant ones, and both Mr. and Mrs. Norr have keen memories and can tell marvelous stories of the old times. Their family is planning just a quiet home observance of the anniversary, but friends may drop by and visit with the Norrs on this special occasion. nt Not Together I got so cold last night I couldsleep, I just shivered. A short business meeting at 7 p.m. will be followed by a dinner that will include ham as the main dish along with a salad buffet. Program for the evening will be one of musical numbers presented by the Cecilian Music society of Brigham City. Members will exchange homemade ornaments as gifts to add to the fun of the occasion. Guests are also invited to attend. Elks UAW meeting installation cancelled for tonight children look forward to annual party Bethel No. 11 of the International Order of Jobs Daughters will hold a public installation of officers on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Brigham City Community center. Installing officer for the day will be Nancy Lancaster, retiring honored queen of the local bethel. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lancaster. Betsy Isom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sherrill Isom, will take the office of honored queen during the ceremonies. Assisting her in the coming of office will be Jean Macbeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Macbeth, as senior princess; Becky Crandall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Crandall, as junior princess; Pam Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miller, as guide; Amy Olds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Olds, as marshall. term Appointed officers and choir members will also be installed during the ceremony, which will be followed by a reception honoring the new officers. Friends and relatives of the girls are invited to attend the installation, according to Mrs. Dot Bolieau, guardian of the bethel. schedules All children of members of Elks Lodge 2208 are invited to BPW party slated for Sunday afternoon, Dec. 18, beginning at 12 noon and continuing to 2 p.m. From noon to 1 p.m. there will lots of games played, with games fitting the skills of all elementary age and youngsters. Theme is Star Wars and the games will fit that theme. Refreshments will be served at 1 p.m. and entertainment by the Shrine clowns will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Parents are asked to bring one dozen cookies to add to the supply on the refreshment table, according to the committee. The party will be culminated by the arrival of Santa Clause at 2 p.m., laden with a bagfull of atgifts. Givens of Brigham City announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Janis Marie to Terry Dean of Mr. and Mrs. H. Dean Baddley of Willard. December 30 has been circled by the couple for their wedding date, with the ceremony to be performed in the Mr. Willard LDS ward. The couple will be honored at a reception immediately following the ceremony. Miss Givens is a graduate of Box Elder High school and Is currently employed at Thiokol corporation. Prospective bridegroom Baddley is also a graduate of Box Elder High school and of the LDS Seminary. He has attended Weber State college for one year and is now em- ployed by Thiokol corporation. A Business and Professional Womens club wil hold its annual Christmas party on Monday evening, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Community center. Members will gather for holiday refreshments, an evening of bingo and prizes, and the traditional exchange of small gifts. Norma Ericsson will take over as club president, since President Carolyn Tauferner is moving to Texas. The evening will also include the installation of three new members into the club, and the selection of the woman of the year. All members are urged to be present for the evening.
