No one was allowed to speak who attended. I was not invited to attend to defend myself. No one asked me what the problems were. My friends of many years who sit on the council had all been at a prior rheetingat 6:30 p.m. before the 7 p.m. council meeting. They all sat there praising me for my eight years of dedication and great work I had done for the senior project, but not one of them had the courage of their convictions to stand up on their own to be counted. This project belongs to the seniors and retired persons who worked with me when I pioneered it from its inception eight years ago, with their help to one of the finest programs in the state. My human rights have also been trampled on. I am not an average employee. We started this project with my sweat and tears and blood in the walls of the building. How can they sit in judgement of me when the attempt to seize my position was made, and long before my resignation had been accepted. It is illegal to try to get an employees job by the tap echelon and it is immoral to try to get it before the resignation has been accepted. This is what happened and it would never have come before the public segment of opinion had it not been exposed by the Ogden Standard reporter. The city council was not only influenced, but more than that, it was the greatest political manipulation of any time in our community. This council meeting was number two railroad action by the top echelon of. the city. Perhaps we should have a code of ethics as they have enforced on the U.S. Senate. The senior citizens are such important people in our community for them to be treated with such inconsideration and lack of dignity is certainly a call for an apology from the city council. Their petitions were not even considered. The entire community has been upset by this action. My dear little assistant, Debbie, who attended the meeting did not have a chance to defend me with her petition and remarks. My resignation was known from the beginning and the offer to act during a crisis, which never existed at the senior center, was a farce and misrepresentation. Not one city councilman ever asked me why I resigned. I am not just a regular employee to be abused after eight years of hard labor, with not one little bit of help from the city, only the seniors brain-washe- THE SIX STUDENTS perform. have been receiving Civilian Health and Medical Programs of the VA (CHAMPVA), based on my husbands 100 per cent perma-named and total disabilities. Dedicated persons, whoever they are, should get a little consideration. My past record shows that I do not have trouble with people. This is one characteristic in which I take much pride. I couldnt have begotten 'so much love otherwise. I do live by a standard of principle. I do stand up to be counted when someone tries to jeopardize my project, This building is unique. It has many disadvantages. It doesnt have a director, but a director of the senior project. I have acted as the director mosf of the time as the janitors were never available for the public questions, information, instruction, etc. This is one of the areas of which no one knows unless they have held my position. The officials do not know of these liabilities as I have carried them and the janitors for many years and this is why the load became too heavy to carry any longer. Perhaps if the officials ever took the time to checkout what I have told them, instead of putting their heads in the sand, the problems which have existed for eight years could be resolved. I was quoted as being derogotory when I mentioned the problems in my letter of resignation. I do want to thank Brigham City Corporation for giving me this most enriching experience of working with these beautiful, beautiful people who have such a valuable potential, and who are my friends, because I love them as much as they love me. I did not desert them as I called the next day to recall my registraton to the administrative assistant and three days later I called again to find out it had been taken out of the hands of the administrator. I suspect because the dollar signs overwhelmed the principles by which we all try to live. My resignation could have been quietly disposed of and it not been for this. Inasmuch as it was suggested by the Mayor that he resign, not for my job this time, but for the good of the community, I think his resignation should be accepted. He has tried so long to get out of the work for which he was elected. I wish the new director much success and love and hope the program will flourish under her direction, with the help of the seniors. I again thank the city for my new found freedom, which I will use to support senior projects in future endeavors, and continue on in my world of creativity. 735 Hazel Kaiser, North First East, Brigham City Something NEW in Brigham City mv OJtDG 734-904- 4 179 South Main $5 Visit our Center during our grand opening and receive free a Vi" potted s plant with 10.00 purchase or receive free a 4" potted plant with a s20.00 purchase.
