Show I Portage Pennings Friends and relatives greet Glen Morris by Maude R. Harris Glen Morris was brought to his home here Tuesday night by his wife, accompanied by his son and daughter-in-laand family, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Morris of Ogden, and his daughter Mrs. Kipp (Sherma) Parker of Longmont, Colo. Morris has spent the past 14 weeks at the University of Utah Medical center in Salt Lake City following back surgery. He was welcomed home by a large group of. relatives and friends with banners and flowers. He celebrated his 65th birthday Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs Allen returned home Tuesday after a weeks vacation trip to Oregon and Washington. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bennett of Spokane, Mrs. Mary Pieper and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Reger of Walla Walla, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Danielson of Enterprise, Ore., and points of interest in Montana and Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Devere Harris hosted a reunion of the family of the late J. Hyrum and Hazel 0. Gibbs Saturday at their summer home in Liberty. All of the brothers and sisters, their spouses and most of their fam- ily members were present. DeLos Gibbs, North Salt Lake, Don Gibbs, Salina;Roy 0. Gibbs, Hunter; Lola Mae Maughn, Wells ville; Wm. L. Gibbs, Velda Harris and LaDell Gibbs, Portage. A pot lunch was served to 65. Following dinner the group enjoyed visiting, volley ball, hiking, lawn croquet and other games. Lightning Strikes During the electrical storm here Friday a bolt of lightning struck a tall poplar tree at the John F. Conley home barking it to the ground. Huge splinters flew through the air barely missing the east window by which Mrs. Conley was sitting, 15 feet from the tree. No serious damage was done. Mr. and Mrs. Krag Parker just and daughters, Annjeannette and Nicky who have lived in this community for the past year moved to Tooele, where they will make their home and where Krag has employment. On Wednesday of last week was Mrs. 'ThwlmaDti-Glbb- s among those who attended a Dredge family gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rosell Mills of Malad in honor of Mrs. Gibbs brother, Wilford J. Dredge and his wife, Vera Allen Dredge who have served an 18 months mission for the LDS Church at the New Zealand Temple as officiators. Among other guests of honor were Mr. and Mrs. James B. Hill and family of Whittier, Calif. Dr. Max Conley of Bountiful was the overnight guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Conley, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hoskins were Ogden visitors Thursday. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wells of Willard. Ward Conference Portage ward conference was held Sunday evening conducted by Bishop Douglas J. Gibbs with a large crowd in attendance. Speakers were: Dell Tuttle, Malad Stake president: Myron Sorenson; counselors, Wayne Kent, and Clyde Hansen; Re gional Representative, Devere Harris and Bishop Gibbs. special musical number was presented by the ward choir with soloists, Marlene A John and Fern Hall, directed by Elma J. Bell, accompanied by Lori Harris. Stake clerk, Lynn Elcock presented the following ward officers: Bishop Douglas J. Gibbs, counselors, E. Wynn John and Josh Hawks; clerks, Ora H. John and Barry D. Parkinson; Sunday school, president, Virgil C. Harris; counselors, Wendell C. Hall and Chester P. Neal; secretary, Karen Sue Gibbs; APYW, presidents, Dianna Harris and Samuel Snow; secretaries, Debra Gibbs and Larry Lynn John. Relief Society, president, Thora T. Allen; counselors, Elma J. Bell and Carol W. Parkinson; secretary, Cynthia W. Williams; Primary, Onetta Howell; counselors, Aleta W. Nielsen and Jeanette W. Udy; secretary, Isabelle O. Nielsen; Librarian, Maurine H. Gibbs. All members of the Malad stake presidency and all the members of the high council were in attendance at the meeting. During the week stake board members of the various organizations were in attendance at ward meetings. Has Surgery by Mr. and Mrs. Josh Hawks that their son, J. D. Hawks of Rexburg Word was received underwent surgery Sunday morning for ruptured appendix. Mrs. Ellis Allen attended funeral services for Orville Butters at Clarkston Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Morris and Mr. and Mrs. Thayne Hupp and daughters of Hansel Valley attended the Ice Follies at Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City Saturday afternoon after which they visited with Glen Morris at the U. of U. Medical center and with Mr. and Mrs. James Yar-ma- n and family at Clearfield. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Allen, daughters, Cheryl of Logan, Janet of Ogden, Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Allen of Bothwell attended the wedding reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Jon Allen at Salt Lake City. Jon is the son of Joseph Charles Allen. Mrs. Jeff Clark who spent the past four weeks with her Mr.'and Mrs: Wuodrow in-la- Clark, and employed in Logan daughters to make their home in Tooele. Twenty ladies enjoyed games and refreshments. Layna was presented with lovely gifts. She was also the recipient of a lovely Floral arrangement presented by the girls of the Ward at APYW meeting that evening. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Nielsen hosted a family dinner at their home Sunday in honor of their son and daughter-in-law- , Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nielsen on their 18th wedding anniversary and also their grandsons 15th birthday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nielsen of Garland, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cannon of North Ogden, Mrs. Mildred Tovey of Malad, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Nielsen and family and the host and hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Thomas and Mrs. Laura K. Gibbs attended the Utah State Fair and horse show in Salt Lake City Friday. They also visited in Clearfield with Mrs. Marilda K. Flint where Mrs. Gibbs stayed to spend the week with her sister. Reorganization Elder Devere Harris, regional representative of the Twelve assisted Elder Mark E. Peterson of the Council of the Twelve in reorganizing the Pocatello North Stake presidency at Stake conference Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. E. Wynn John, son Larry Lynn, daughters, Marlene, Mary Ann and Melonie and Julie Williams of Malad who was their weekend guest attended the Utah State Fair and Ice Follies at Salt Lake City Saturday. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hoskins were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hoskins and daughter, Jody, of Ogden, Wayne Hoskins and sons Blaine and Rick of Roy. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Hoskins visited in Willard Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wells. Scout Master Bruce Roderick and his brother Dale took the scouts to Lava Hot Springs where they enjoyed an overnight camp out Friday night and Saturday. In spite of the rain which hampered their cooking plans, the boys had a good time. Those participating were, Greg,.
