Show Win a few, lose a few, tie two BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah Thursday, September 1 1, 1975 Dnmunitive gridders 70A No. 2 Brigham City Deadlock Ogden Brigham City 70A No. 2 fought to a scoreless tie against Oden 70 No. 1. The game was a defensive battle with both teams having difficulty moving the ball throughout the game. Brigham Ciy produced the only threat of a score in the first half with Brad Chadwick breaking an off tackle play from to the eight yard line of Ogden. The half ended with Brigham City inches from the goal line. mid-fiel- d During the second half, neither offensive team was able to mount a serious threat against the two outstanding defensive units. An intercepted pass by Marvin Vail put Brigham City deep in their own territory, and they were unable to move out for the remainder of the game. However, superb play by the defensive unit completely shut off the Ogden offense. Ogden managed to muster only one first down in the entire game. The defensive line for Brigham City had Justin Dolling and Craig Clement at ends, Mickey Woodworth and Mike Lavery at tackles and Gary Wood and Pat Lavery at guards. Linebackers Mike Richards, John Wolf, and Shannon White-hea- d along with safeties Marvin Vail and John David Parsons also played an outstanding de fensive game. Reserves Tom Miggins, Todd Baxter and David Russell also played well for the defensive unit. Brigham City 70B Tie Pleasant View Brigham City 70B played a determined Pleasant View team to a 6 to 6 tie game. The Brigham score came in the second quarter on a pass from quarterback B. Adams to halfback B. Goldsberry. The offensive line of Andrus, Bailey, Case, Coates, Coddington, Jib-soJuber, Kirchoff, Marshall, K. Peterson, Smith, B. Williams, and Christofferson did a fine job of opening holes for running backs Carver, Hall, Olsen, Lyons, and Goldsberry. The offensive player of the week is Brett Goldsberry for his completed pass and touchdown. The defensive unit held Pleasant View scoreless until a busted play resulted in an end run which scored. The Brigham defensive line of M. Begaii, Bockmeyer, Bradford, D. Petersen, Taylor, J. Williams did a good job, they were backed by linebackers, Carver, Hall, Larsen, Newman, and Dunn, with Lyons and Velasquez at safety positions. The defensive player of the week is Bobby Newman for outstanding plays at linebacker and multiple sacking of the Pleasant View quarterback with the help of Larsen and J. Williams. Brigham City 70Bs play Loga next Saturday at 12:45 p.m. in Brigham City. Local 70As Trip Ogden The Brigham City 70A No. 1 team escaped from Ogden with a slim margin Saturday for their first win of the year. The game was close all the way with both teams moving the ball at times. Brigham City almost scored just before the first half but Ogden held on. Also six fumbles by Brigham City helped Ogden. The opening two plays of the second half was the offensive showing of the game for Brigham as fullback Nick Smith broke off of left tackle and rambled 35 yards before being pulled down from behind. On the very next play tailback Matt Yeates broke off of right tackle and raced 25 yards to score. Smith again using the excellent blocking of the left side of the line ran the extra point over left tackle. The left side blockers who opened the fine holes on offense are Tod Richardson tackle, Casey Claybaugh guard, and Denton Gordon at end. Fine blocks from right tackle Casey Stevensen, guard Greg 6 Beecher and fullback Smith broke the touchdown play. Ogden scored on a 55 yard run the game, but Niel nailed the runner on the try for extra point and killed late in Lichfield Ogden hopes. Lichfield was the outstanding defensive performer of the game. Local 70Cs win Second Straight The Brigham City 70 Cs No. 2 won their second consecutive game of the season with hard fought win over South Ogden, 19-- Brigham City scored on their first series of downs, going 60 yards in 11 plays. South Ogden then took six plays to go 60 yards with wide end runs that had Brigham Citys defense confused. They were successful on their PAT and led Just before the half, Coach Bill Curtis changed his defense to stop the sweeps and South Ogden was unable to generate any further offense. They were to a total of seven yards in the second half. Brigham City had a total of seven first downs, 206 yards rushing, 0 for two in the passing department with one interception and they were penalized once for five yards, scoring twice in the second half. South Ogden had four first downs, rushed for 70 yards and fumbled twice and lost them both, South Ogden had 75 yards in penalties, three calls for grabbing the face mask. After the opening season last week with a 35-- win over Roy No. 1, Brigham City showed they can lay with tough teams. They meet Ogden No. 1 at 11:30 a.m. in Brigham City on Saturday. 0 Intercity 85s Play, No. Wins Brigham City 85A No. 1 took a hard-fouggame from their crosstown rivals, Brigham City 85A No. 2 last Saturday, close, 13-- scored first after recovering a fumble, with Kelly Shiffler carrying over for the TD on an end run from the No. 2 seven-yarline. Shiffler also scored the extra point, helped by blocks from John Cox, Todd Thompson, Cory Menlove, Dwight Goodwin and John Duran. For the next several minutes of play, neither team could move the ball until the second quarter, when No.s 2 Johnny Mason made a block that sprung their tailback, Todd Morrison, loose on a scamper. The try for the point after failed. In the third and fourth quarters, Brigham No. 1 made some nice gains led by quarterback and offensive captain David Keller, but could not sustain a drive. The offensive line did an excellent job of blocking, led by Jim Eskelson, Kent Poelman, Chris Cox, Kent Nowak, Ivan Earl, Steve Woodruff, Robert McGee, and Charles Vogt. Late in the fourth quarter, No. 1 again recovered a fumble on the No. 2 line. Four plays later, John Cox scored from the four-yarline. Except for one lapse, the Brigham No 1 defense did an excellent job. No 2 lost the ball several times on fumbles, helped by the hard charging Duran, Goodwin, Matte Velasquez, Chris Cox, Willie Iverson, Poelman, and Tom Williams. The select linebackers and safeties included Richard Hadley, Pat Munson, Jim Davis, Thompson, Shiffler, Eskelson and Cox, who also made a saving tackle on a kick return by No. 2. Fumble recoveries were made by Shiffler, Duran, J. Cox, Eskelsen, Menlove and Poelman. The hard fought game proved there is a lot of very good football talent in Brigham City on both teams. Durable Chad Nielson played spectacularly at defensive end and as quarterback rambled for 20 yards gun Kirk Bemus picked off a Layton pass and was one step from going all the way. Others playing good offense and defense were Doug McIntosh, Allan Earl, Allan Limb, Erin Hazelton, Jon Searle, Pete Began, Mark Haynie, Doug Robinette, Lorenzo Median, Tyler Jenson and Troy Jensen. Game captains for Brigham were Jon Erickson, Troy Dun-laand Allan Earl. The next opponent for the Brigham 85B team is always tough South y Ogden. Brigham City 120 Pounds Logan The 120 pounders defeated Logan No. 2, 20 o 6. Dominance was evident in the statistics which showed Brigham gained 310 yards to Logans 30. Logans only score came on a pass mterc eption. Kevin Udy went 75 yards for the first score on the second play from scrimmage. Rowdie Rock added the point after. The second senes was a sustained 70 yard drive behind fine offensive line play by Rick Thomas, Jess Sargent, Steve Hinchman, Brian Jeppeson and Mike Martinez. Kelly Barnhart scored from four yards out and Ken Crowder made the point after. The passing game was exercised successfully in the third series which ended on the six yard line at the half. Eric Done and Zane Checketts made fine receptions of Van Jeppersons passes. In the second half, Rock had a run and Jepperson went 55 yards for the last score. Again the play of the defensive units was outstanding. They held Logan to minus two yards the first half. The most evident defenders were Mike Martinez, Chad Reeves, Art Huot and Kyle Adams. All 32 players were in action and performed well. Smith said the woman is charged with sending herself six threatening letters in connection with an alleged crime. He said some 500 manhours were expended in round the clock survellience by Perry City, Brigham City and Box Elder Sheriffs office law enforcement officers. Smith said several officers watched the womans home, car and place of employment several days. Named in the criminal summons signed by Smith was Sherrie Pett, 20, of 224 South Seventh West. The charge is a misdemeanor. arrested A Sunset man wanted on a felony warrant by Ogden City has been arrested by Perry City Police Chief Ron Smith. Smith said he was looking for a lost child and discovered Terry Cole, 22, in an unoccupied trailer house. A routine record While searching the trailer, said Smith, he discovered about a lid of marijuana and a pipe.
