Show Dry land school for skiers today Theres a chance for all Box Elder, Bear River and Intermountain all head into league action this Friday and for all its do or die. Box Elder and Bear River both have yet to taste league victory. The Bears lost to 9 Bonneville last Friday while the Bees were idel. The loss gave the Bears an league mark and the Bees are 68-4- 2 Intermountain, meanwhile, hosts powerful Wasatch in their first Region Nine test and its imperative the Eagles get back on the winning track for the long haul to the state tourney after having a winning e streak snapped at Tabiona Saturday. Tough Nut Box Elder gets a tough nut to crack with Logan coming to town Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Grizzlies, a relatively unknown quantity before the season began, are proving themselves to be a solid contender for Region One title honors. Theyve scored victories over Bonneville and Roy, two of the n favorites. What must have the Bees concerned is that Roy handled them with relative ease the week before. At the same time, however, Box Elder is coming off a non- league victory over always potent Viewmont last week. And a convincing triumph it was as the local lads played especially strong defense for three quarters. Bears vs Roy The Bears lost it to a 16-- 3 scoring binge by the Lakers midway through the third quarter, then after coming back from to within six, fell away again as the Lakers evened their record at When Roy comes to town, the Bears will have their hands full again. The Royals have defeated Box Elder and lost a good test to Logan last week. Running for the Bears will be smooth guard Mark Weese, Brad Cutler, Rick Adams and Jeff Fronk, with Dale Thompson and Jeff Williams working underneath. The talent and size are there on the Bears young club, and it could all click together against the Royals, especially in Garland. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Eagles vs Wasps After losing 6 to Tabiona on Saturday after coming from beind to down Raft River, the Eagles will be needing every bit of strategy and speed to defeat the bigger Wasps of Wasatch. The loss at Tabiona was the first of the season for Coach Gary Rohmers Eagles. We need to stress defense. We were flat the last two games and we need to get ready for Wasatch, he said. in The Wasps are Region Nine. Game time is also 7:30 p.m. for the Eagles in Brigham City. Cutter Craze by Marge Jensen Results from the Box Elder County Fairgrounds You know, we think we have a difficult time staying upright when its slick underfoot. Have you ever thought how it would be if you had four feet to keep going? The first race of the day went just great til that turn past the finish line. Now, those horses are going at a pretty fast clip to negotiate that turn and when its packed and icey it takes nimble, quick feet and an alert driver to make it. One of the horses on the Northridge Qtr. Horse team lost its footing, fell down, slid and was up again with no one hurt. Guys were running from all over to help, but that driver had the team stopped and everything under control. I hope Claude Allred had done his Christmas shopping before the races Saturday. He had trouble in the "warm up circle and broke up another chariot. Boy, that sure makes racing expensive. Claude cant figure how all this happens to him. Lynn, the driver, has been living a good, clean life for weeks and Claude has all his life, according to him. I do hope Lunar 1 wasnt hurt seriously. Lost Horse understand Ray Udy lost a good horse. It was injured on the walker. Thats a lot of money and time spent in training, gone down the drain, as well as high hopes for a good horse. Im sure similar accidents, such as these, happen to all of us, and yet there is something about the sport and those I beautiful, almost human animals that keeps us picking up the pieces and starting all over again. If you havent been out to see this, I urge you to try it. It is most rewarding in a way hard to explain, even though you are the loser. Four Season Supply donated a beautiful red nylon halter for the winner of the closest race. This went to Roger Golightly, and that he did and fastly to. our Mrs. Neil Rhodes, presidents wife, made two boxies of delicious candy, one for the oldest driver, this was won by Dee Black. Can you imagine careening down that slick track and keeping it all together at 67! The other box went to Dee Williams. That was for the driver with the most kids. He has seven so all of those drivers dont spend all their barn. the in time Congratulations, Dee. Boy, do we ever owe an apology to R&R Hardware. They had two $5 gift certificates to be given away. What with all the paper etc. on the table, they got covered up and were discovered after the races. Well make sure they are given out next week. Again, please accept our apology. You couldnt get to the front row for the excited, happy kids. What a beautiful Christmas picture it made and thats just what our photographer, Bill Chapman did. Santa sure left people with happy hearts, shinning eyes. If the true spirit of Christmas is giving, Jean Quick surely has it. She had those darling handmade all day suckers in the novice skiers to get some free instruction before hitting the slopes for real.
