Benefits Higher The increase in the number enrolled in social security has been accompanied by frequent hikes in the amounts paid out in benefits, as well as in the payroll taxes that go to pay for them. The figures show that more than $5,232,000 is now entering the county annually via the social security route. In 1971, by way of contrast, it was $3,792,000. With the changes that have been made, social security has expanded to huge proportions. It involves the collection and payout of over $51 billion annually, which is nearly a fourth of all other federal receipts. Post office announces deadlines for sending Christmas mail and packages As sure as Santa comes every year to bring millions and millions of gifts to all the good people, the post office will be deluged with billions of cards and packages at Christmastime. IGRGV IVJORLD - Box Elder How much are Box Elder county residents now receiving from Washington each month in the form of social security checks? How do these checks compare in size with those going to other sections of the country? The latest official figures, released by the Social Security administration, show that the pension payments in the local area are comparatively large. They have been rising considerably induring the last few years, due to the creases that have gone into effect. Payments to Box Elder county beneficiaries, as of the beginning of this year, were at the annual rate of $1,650 per recipient, as against $1,285 in 1971.
