Society Editor's CRATCH PAD Last weekend the Editors attended the annual press association convention, with the evnt being a first for the children since they were on their own except for a neighbor lrl coming to ?leep;oyernight, with them on Saturday. Each child was assigned a meal to prepare and clean up qfter, since three children exactly fit the three meals that parents would be gone. Of course, we had to go out and get food, since the family $asy-fi- x Jiad originally planned on irandma coming for the weekend. Bus and train schedules being ivhat they are and Grandmas Schedule being unusually busy ;that week, connections would liave ended up at 1:30 a.m. or tier arrival after the Editors Jiad taken off for the big city. 5 Actually, it worked out well .ince Mrs. Society Editor Always seems compelled to clean house for the arrival of and the busy jier mother-in-laweek preceding the convention Jiadnt been conducive to extra-speciThe . housekeeping. family had been lucky to have jlean clothes, meals, dishes (washed and beds made during a week that included so many other events! : Relaxing Time Despite a busy schedule of and Workshops, banquets, dinner-dance- s, the weekend relaxing in that it was a change from home. Its the height of luxury to sleep in a bed iyou dont have to make or change sheets on, to leave a rbathtub ring on a tub you dont rJiave to scour, and to eat meals you didnt cook. ; Maybe Jackie Onassis lives jjhat way all the time, but Mrs. Society Editor has never been surrounded by servants so a ijnotel or hotel always seems luxurious to her because of the Service. If the rooms are extra-fjiicas these were, then the luxurious feeling is even better. Hubby thought the king-size3ed was really great, since he could stretch out without his Teet hitting the footboard. :twas off for a short shopping trip to pick up the offerings expected by the homebodies if they leave for a trip. Red plastic flashlights for the boys (in hope? that theyd not run down the batteries on all the famiTy,'t!ashlights) Clogged Drain Everyone jumped up to announce that the kitchen sink was plugged and theyd called a neighbor with a can of drain cleaner, used the plumbers friend, and all sorts of remedies but had finally given up. So the Editors came down from their dream world, changed into their grubbies, and began ladeling icky water and taking apart drain pipes, and running snakes into the sink (plumbers snakes, not reptiles expected to eat the clog as envisioned by the children) and finally cleaning out a clog that haS been a long time building. Then the children announced that three lightbulbs had burned out, and they had put a lamp in the windowless bath where the light shortage was most acute. Otherwise, theyd fared well over the weekend and had kept the house reasonably clean and decent. Still it was nice weekend.
