The thing that always gets me is when you've been driving for a long while and everybody's asleep, if you have to stop it's all over. Never fails. When ya come to the stop light or slow down for any reason, bam, everybody's up. It always happens. The kids are asleep and ya see a station up ahead and say to the wife, ''Let's stop and get something to drink." Anyway, what this world needs is a book on traveling with kids. j US MM1 Whats Vi A if Objects to Light Removal Editor: I would like to voice my opinion about changing the traffic signals at the intersection of First South and Main street. Now school is about to begin once again has anyone ever counted the school children who cross the street at First South and Main street? There must be dozens of children who cross there and they are taught in school to cross the street when the light is red and wait for the cars to go past when the light is green. How will they be able to tell when it is safe to cross the street if there are no signals to show them? And then there are other people, both old and young, who use the traffic signals to help them cross the street. If the state road commission still insists on taking the crossing signals down I suggest the city put up some signal lights of their own as they have done at First North and Main street. The traffic signals at First South and Main street is just as important to the public as the signals at First North and Main street are. Do you know that: HANSEN is one of the most popular of Scandivavian surnames. It is the equivalent of Hanson and signifies son of the latter being a diminutive or familiar form of the popular Teutonic personal Should Box Elder county continue in the weed spraying business? This question will be subject for discussion at a public hearing set Sept. 28 in the county commission room. The session is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. County commissioners set the hearing Tuesday and said they would issue special invitations to the North and South Box Elder Farm Bureau and the Farmers acres each. The cost is $100 to $250 per acre with 10 percent discount for cash, it was noted. Buyers will bear all costs for developing water and sewage disposal, building new streets and making electrical power available. County officials have not been pleased with the proliferation of such land sales in the countys western area. Commercial sprayers also are expected Consult With Planner Commission Chairman Don Chase said he would consult with Planner Kent Elwell in the matter but I dont know if theres anything we can do about it, he commented. Another subdivision plan was discussed, it coming from Harold Sandall of Park Valley. Sandall wants to create 69 lots of 1.38 acres each near Dove Creek Pass. They would be used primarily by hunters, it was explained. Commissioner Chase said the proposal will have to clear the planning commission and then come back to us. A letter from Col. Kenneth E. Harrison, Hill Air Force base, suggested a new sign for persons driving across Wendover bombing range from U.S. 40 to Lakeside. The new sign clarifies the right to public travel over the road. The commissioners approved but said the Utah Highway department will have to give its okay. An existing sign which questions the right to public use of the road, or at least is ambiguous, caused the highway department to resist logging the route as a county road. to be on hand. At issue is the countys spraying service which not only includes that along county roads but also on private lands. The weed departments current budget is $73,000 and last year, it was $72,257 with cash receipts for that year totaling $32,041. Commercial sprayers reportedly are not happy with the situation. The county is not in it to make money. Commercial sprayers would like to take it over. They dont feel the county should be in the spraying business. The county can do it cheaper because it doesnt have to make a profit," Commissioner Malcolm C. Young stated.
