Soroptimists Present Piano to City Center Theres "music in the air at the Community Center these days, with a new blond spinet s piano just right for and informal performances now located on the floor level at the center's main meeting room, Presentation of the piano was made by members of the local Soroptimists club as a part of a continuing project of service to area senior citizens, with the official presentation and plaque made to Mayor Ole Zundel. In turn, the mayor expressed the gratitude of the city for the piano as well as for the other services that the club has performed for the community. There for the presentation were three club members who have spearheaded the various sing-along- fl h; i Y functions that have raised funds, coordinated projects, i 1 I s ! if I Jessie Nelson, Mickey Hanson and Mabel Yourt of Sorophimists club presented Mayor Ole Zundel with a bronze plaque to be placed on a blond spinet floor piano presented to the Community Center as the wind-uof a local club A HAPPY TUNE p Garland Couple Will Observe Anniversary Frank Riser, Sr. Mrs. and W. of Garland will mark their 64th wedding anniversary on Sun- Mr. (Madaline) 65th YEAR Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Riser, Sr. of Garland will be honored at a family dinner on their 64th wedding anniversary.-- - day, March 4, with a family dinner at their home. They were married on March the 5, 1908 in Manti and marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS temple on Feb. 25, 1970. A native of Berlin, Germany, Mr. Riser came to the United States as a child of seven. His wife is a native of Manti. Garland Home The Risers have resided in Garland for 52 years, where he was employed as a master mechanic with the Utah and Idaho Sugar company in Garland until his retirement. Prior to that the family lived in Elsinore. Mr. and Mrs. Riser are the parents of four children: Frank W. Riser, Jr. and Martin H. Riser of Garland, Mrs. Ernest Brenkman (Dorothy) of Tremonton, and Mrs. Virginia Wight of Brigham City. The couple has seven grandchildren and 19 and helped to make the local Senior Citizens program a success: Mickey Hanson, Jessie B. Nelson, and Mabel Yourt. Long a Project the For many years, Soroptimists club of Brigham City has helped to sponsor projects for senior citizens and was behind the formation of an organized program for older residents that was led by club member Mabel Yourt. The results of the organized program are a credit to many individuals and organizations and include the senior citizens lounge at the Community luncheon Center, weekly programs, many classes in arts and crafts, dances, and the bus tours which the Soroptimists helped to initiate. A floor piano has been needed at the center for some time, since the large piano on the stage could not be moved for or informal programs sing-alon- wind-u- activities. g Though p to a as meant the current senior citizens project thru the sale of golden spike souvenirs at city celebrations, the piano will not only benefit the senior citizens program but will be used by the many organizations which meet at the center. But as local senior citizens are now organized to plan their own activities, the club will play more of a supportive role and less of a leadership role in the program. Continuing interest will also be shown in the continued support of the organization in its annual holiday season project of p presenting personally decorated boxes of homemade to local elderly residents. Other fields of community service are now being explored by the club, which is affiliated international the with organization for professional women. cookies Eastern Star Looks to Busy Month Church Women Slates Annual Day of Prayer Box Elder Council of Church Women United will observe the annual World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 3, at 2 p.m. in the Tremonton Area Couple to Wed In Spring Ceremony Mr, and Mrs. Henry Barnum of Mantua announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Jean to Curtis Hancey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Community Methodist church. Guest speaker for the service will be Mrs. Yolanda Allen, the first city councilwoman elected in Tremonton, who will address the group during services set to the theme AH Joy Be Yours. Women of the host church will also act as hostesses for a social time, according to celebration chairman Mrs. Tom Carter. Brigham City members of Church Women United will join forces to provide a carpool to Tremonton for the observance, as will the women in Logan. Carpools will leave from Gillespie hall, 150 East Third South, at 1:30 p.m. to travel to Tremonton. Church Women United is composed of women from local Protestant and Catholic churches, with LDS women also joining as individuals. A service organization, the group has three major observances in addition to their volunteer service in many phases of community life. Any woman interested in the program is invited to attend. Plans will also be discussed during the meetings for the groups annual turkey dinner set for Saturday, March 25, at the lodge hall. SPACE AGE DIET FOOD PROTEIN WITH DEHYDRATED HONE Dance Slated By LDS Group Mutual Interest dancing groups are becoming more numerous in northern Utah and include some Southern Idaho areas, according to a local spokesman, who announced that the Bridgerland Group will hold a Friday evening dancing social on March 3 at 9 p.m. in the Malad Stake center. The Toolson orchestra will provide music for the dance, with dance instructors Keith and Wilma Fridal offering their help to keep the group actively intermingling. Dance director is Lamar Thomas of Malad. Another Mutual ONLY AT... (So catefl Interest dance is held each Friday night in Roy at the LDS cultural hall located at 2100 West 5300 South. Different orchestras are featured each week, all highly popular ones, and the dances are enjoyed and well attended. They are open to local area members.
