Goose bumps, the tiny muscles around the base of hairs, reflect the action of nerves after the injection of various drugs. Certain drugs cause a regular rise and fall of goose bump muscles, others cause inflammation on the skin. The nerves controlling sweat glands are traced by placing a starch-soakepaper of a starchy emulsion on the arms. A drop small of sweat dissolves a amount of iodine which blackens on contact with starch. The of nerves controlling action sweat glands can be traced when drugs are injected.
