But, being surrounded with loving and kind friends does make the sorrow easier to bear and we want to express our deep thanks to all the people whose love and concern for us at this time of sorrow gave us many reasons to remember that God needs us to look forward to embrace the tasks he still has for us to perform. A special thanks to every student, every ROTC cadet, every faculty member, every neighbor, every comrade in the military, and every friend in Christ who eased our sorrow with prayers, gifts, and many acts of kindess. Next we get to look forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The busy time of year is upon us! Have you noticed that there are businesses in town that have their Christmas trees and decorations up already? I saw one that was up before Halloween! Next year I bet we can expect them up by Easter. I would like to see the businesses wait at least until after Thanksgiving to start those things . . .Christmas comes soon enough without starting it in October. Speaking of the Halloween holiday, the Bear River Elementary school hosted the annual Halloween carnival last Friday night. They served a dinner during the night, and had many games and prizes for the people who attended. They had a costume parade that anyone could enter and they gave prizes for the best costumes in different catagor-ies- . The different rooms were set up with games and other things for us to do. There was a very good turn out of the people around town. The next night was left free for the young folks around to go trick or treating. Judging from the crowd at my house, it was the best year since Ive been here, for tricks and treats. Gave Program Last Sunday the Relief Society teachers gave the program in church. It consisted of several of the teachers giving talks on their lessons for the coming year. It proved to be very interesting. Those involved were sisters Melba Checketts, Merle Holmgreen, Paula Anderson, Elaine Palmer, Wanda John-seAndrea Huggins, Felila Huggins, Janice Holmgreen, Vida Burt and Romaine Jensen. The Relief Society chorus favored the congregation with a number during the program also. It turned out to be a very lovely meeting. Alvin and Winnie Jensen had an open house at their residence last, weekend in honor of their 60th wedding anniversary. Friends and relatives attended from all over came to honor the couple on their special occasion. They have three children, Paul S. Jensen, Mrs. Dale (Phyllis) Hunsaker and Mrs. Lonnie (Valoy) Booth. They also have another thing that I think that they ought to be proud of, they have three great-grea- t grandchildren. That must be some family. Congratulations to you two, 60 years is a long time, and I hope that you make it for a long time more together. Steer Killed There were a few things that happened during Halloween that I think ought to be mentioned. Not all good things happen, there always has to be someone distructive and mean. On Halloween night someone butchered a steer that belonged to Ernest Huggins and just left the remains there for evidence that they had done it. It saddens me to think that this is going on in our town. You cant even leave livestock out anymore for fear that something will happen to it . . getting along fine and she hopes to have him home this week. Get well wishes are being sent your way Mr. Iverson. I hope that you feel better soon. The Kenneth Paskett home has been quite busy lately with Meadows of Salt Lake City and Karen Christensen traveled to Golden, Colo, for a five day vacation during a weekend of deer hunting last week. They . There also was a real cute scarecrow put up for the holiday in front of a local residents house, and some very destructive kids burned it down while they were out with their kids helping with trick or treating. The cost in some of the things that happened were very great and I think that its a shame that we cant trust anyone anymore with our valuables. Trick or treating may be for a few little tricks, but not the destructive kind. I hope that they find out who did these things and make it right, its too bad that these things have to happen. Fern Arbon hosted her pinocle club last week at her home in Honeyville. There are several ladies from town that attend this club. Mr. and Mrs. John Hardy had visitors from Idaho Falls, Idaho this past week. They were with Mr. and Mrs. Taylor and they spent a few days there and attended church on Sunday with them. left Thursday morping from Granger and drove on to Golden visitors from California and Bothwell.
