Perhaps the Board of Big Game Control should be changed from its capacity to set season and bag limits, to work in an advisory capacity with the DWR, which should have the authority to set seasons and bag limits. The DWR has the experts and first-han- d knowledge of situations. This scribe cant help but wondering how three laymen in terms of game biology can act knowledgably and without politics. They assess the facts, but keep an ear tuned to those who are paying the fiddler, their respective interest groups. -- Perhaps Grand and San Juan counties receive a heavy number of nonresident deer hunters each year who make a good contribution to state coffers, or perhaps the deer ' hunters are interfering with ranching in the . rs credited with the win and Janice Johnson was the losing pitcher. Tournament As one division officer has said, restricting one area to a very short season exerts more pressure on others which might have a greater overall affect than a regular season. This may have been on the boards mind. Whatever the reason, the sportsmens views need further assessing before the hunters make their plans for the fall hunt. Most complaints are of too restrictive seasons, rather n than too liberal. vBut when the state agency in charge of such matters with statistics to back up is over ruled, it makes this writer wonder a bit about the validity of having such a board. , This writer also has to believe the sporstmen know whereof they speak in the matter, particularly when their recommendation coincides with that made by the DWR.
