He said the department had no equipment on the scene tall enough to reach the steep three story roof and the fire had to be extinguished from inside the attic. He said a ladder was brought out for inspection of the roof before the department left the scene. It took firemen two hours to extinguish all fires and clean up at the scene. No firemen were injured, the chief noted, although the departments equipment didnt fare so well. The chief said a 1938 American LaFrance pumper broke down on the way to the fire and a 1948 Mac pumper broke down coming back from the fire. He said the problem with the LaFrance was minor and it was back in service within an hour, but the problem with the Mac is more serious and it may be out of service for several days. The chief said the department should have enough equipment to operate without the pumper if it is not out too long. , a V ,.V mm Youth Officer P. J.
