Sarah Yates, women's editor food family 723-385- Mrs. Fred (Doris) Baugh of Brigham City has been selected a Brigham Citys Clubwoman of the Year by Ladies Community club and Civic Improvement club, both of which are members of the Utah Federation of Womens clubs. A of member both organizations, Mrs. Baugh has served actively or, committees and in various offices. Couple sets temple date ifxv ??w gawwiyy Bishop and Mrs. Rex R. Pugsley of Park Valley announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Linda Helen to Dr. Thomas M. Abbot, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Abbott of Walnut Creek, Calif. The couple will be married Friday, April 19, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. A reception and wedding dance will be held in their honor Saturday evening, April 20, at the Park Valley ward cultural hall-- 8 p.m. to midnight. All friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend. Miss Pugsley is a graduate of Bear River High school where she received recognition in scholastics and art and was named a Rare Bear during her senior year. She is a graduate of Utah State university with a degree in both special education and elementary education. For the past three years she has been teaching special education at the Stoker elementary school in Bountiful. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Washburn High school in Minneapolis, Minn. He Miss Linda Helen Pugsley and Dr. Thomas Abbott will be married April 19 in the Salt Lake LDS TO WED M. from Brigham Young university in 1968 and received his M.D. degree from the University of Utah in 1973. He is currently doing his internship at the University of Utah. Dr, Abbott also fulfilled an LDS mission in Austria. The couple plans to make their home in Bountiful for the summer months. graduated League elects local officers at luncheon Continuing officers were endorsed and new officers elected to serve the Brigham City League of Women Voters for the coming year, with the organization electing for two-yeterms and choosing half of the officers each biennium. President for another year will be Sarah Yates with Marjorie Childs continuing as first vice president, Jeanne Hinchman elected second vice president, Gloria Jensen as secretary, and Pat Weling as treasurer. Elected directors are Nancy Jane Bales, June Petersen, Marie Locklin and Alberta Blue, with other committee chairmen and directors to be appointed. The election took place at the annual business luncheon of the League of Women Voters held April 6 at Ray and Cathys restaurant. Adopted as a new project item at the meeting was the revision, updating, and publication of a Know Your Town new booklet featuring Brigham City. ar BETH WILLIAMS and LAWRENCE JORGENSEN Couple circles date tor April home rite A home ceremony will unite Miss Beth Williams and Lawrence Jorgensen in marriage on April 26 at the home of the bride's parents in Grover, Wyo : The future bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Boyd ' Richins and granddaughter of Mrs. Erma Nelson. She is a : 1971 graduate of Star Valley High school and a four year LDS Seminary graduate. She has been residing with her grandmother in Brigham City and is employed with his father in the trucking business. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard L. Jorgensen, the : prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Box Elder High .school. Newcomers set speaker and selection meet Welcome Wagon Newcomers .club will hold its monthly 'luncheon on Wednesday, April :17, at the Golden Spike Cafe on .the main road into Corinne. An oriental luncheon is planned at the cost of $2.75 per person, with the luncheon to be served at 12:30 p.m. promptly since the afternoon program .will include election of officers. : Guest speaker will be Mrs. Jessie Eller, Utah State University extension service bgent, who will speak on the subject of the emotional aspects of homemaking. Election of officers will also be held, with the tradition that vice president Ellen Opprecht will step into the office now held by president Lynn Tugaw. Nominated by the committee for offices are Christine Kollmeyer, vice president; Darlene Baker, secretary; Judy treasurer; Sue Shearer, Furlow, historian. Nominations will also be accepted from those in attendance with prior consent of the nominee required. She has also served in the CPA Northern District auxiliary. In addition ot her club activities, Mrs. Baugh is active in the LDS Church and has served in the presidencies of Primary and Relief Society, taught in all the auxiliaries, and is presently serving as homemaking leader in her stake. Miss Hunsaker is a graduate of Box Elder High school and LDS Seminary graduates. She is currently a four-yea- r enrolled at Brigham Young university where she is afiliated with Sportwoman, majoring in elementary education. The prospective bridegroom graduated from Snake River High school and has filled an LDS mission in Argentina. He also is attending Brigham Young university as a physical education major. Both plan to graduate from BYU next April. The couple plans to live in Blackfoot this will hear summer following their marriage. speaker on Womens Politics Mrs. J. P (Beth) Gurrister will be the guest speaker for the April meeting of the Brigham City Business and Professional Womens Club Monday, April 15. Her subject will be Women and Politics. A piember of the Governors Commission on the Status of Women, where she serves as chairman, she is also a member of the Planning Commission of Brigham City and past of the League of Women Voters of Utah, and past president of Brigham City LWV. She is a member of the Vocational Advisory council for Box Elder School district; past chairman of the Mayor's UN day committee; member of the governing board of the Community Presbyterian church in Brigham City. Mrs. Gurrister is a graduate of western College for Women, Oxford, Ohio; with a BA in English history and has a teaching certificate on the elementary level. Her husband is employed at Thiokol and they have four children; one at graduate school at U of U, two at USU and one at home. The meeting will be held April 15 at the Red Baron Amber Room. Officers for the coming year will be elected Monday evening and they will be installed at the May meeting. LWV schedules study units on education Brigham City League of Women Voters will hold two units of study on education policy, finance, and salaries on Tuesday, April 16, with one scheduled during the daytime and one unit in the evening. The daytime unit will be held at the home of Nancy Jane Bales, 803 Holiday, at 9:15 a.m. Persons who will need nursery care for small children are 3 to make asked to call necessary arrangements for the service. Evening unit will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Marjorie Childs, 342 West Camaren. This unit is particularly planned for the working women who belong to the League of Women Voters. All persons interested in the subject or in League membership are invited to attend and to call the hostesses for further information about study materials. Anyway, keep those calls until coming to Sarah at you get the word that Ruth is back at her trusty typewriter. 3 From Taiwan Brent Mr. and Mrs. Christensen and children from Taiwan are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hansen and Alberts mother Rhoda in Brigham City. The family resides in Taiwan, where Brent is employed by an industrial firm. It isnt new territory to him, however, since he also serve an LDS mission in that country. They will return home in a few days. Also sending news off to the orient these days are Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Busby, who welcomed a little son Thomas Andrew into their family on March 23. The little feelows mom is the Former Saruon Kien from Vietnam, and they hurried word of his arrival to his maternal grandmother Nam Thi Kien at the time of his birth. He has a big brother Randy who is three years old. Proud paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Roy Busby of Brigham City, who have been enjoying getting r 19 I acquainted with their little grandson since he came home from Cooley Memorial hospital. Conference Guests Conference time is always a time for visitors, and Mr. and Mrs. Norm Nelsen were delighted to have their Mrs. daughter-in-la- Robert (Gerri) Nelsen here for three weeks preceeding conference when she was joined by her husband Bob to attend Conference sessions. He is branch president in McAllister, Mont. Their son Mike Nelsen ahd his girl friend Cheri Kennington travelled from Ricks College on Friday after school in order to spend some time with his folks and to attend sessions of Conference with them in Salt Lake City. They stayed until Sunday evening.
