Show 12 BOX ELDER NEWS, Brigham City, Utah Next: Roy on Wednesday Sunday, September 24, 1972 Dgvq tocafs HUdx tails WtaEs ffiwsrs rfco Ms Well, they didn't beat us bad as last year! This was the consoling remark of one Hive partisan after Sky View pounded Box Elder with a 42-- Region One football defeat at Smithfield Friday afternoon. The fan was right. Last years score was 56-- sistent player at his middle linebacker spot. 6 There was little solace, however, as the day became a dismal gridiron experience for the visitors. They knew at the outset that versatile Mark Flammer, the Bobcats' fine senior - sen (73) and Max Smith (74). Coming over to block for Sky View is Alan Gibbons (69). Miller was run out of bounds but the Cats scored anyway. BOBCATS ON MOVE Sky View's Bruce Miller heads toward the goal line in this action from Fridays battle with the Bees. In pursuit are Box Elders Jan Christen quarto be terback, would have contained. He wasnt. The 0 field general led his troops with skill and poise, running for a couple of touchdowns and passing for two more. Box Elder was aware also that split end Kent Tingey was a lethal instrument in the Cat passing attack. And that a slippery mite named Randy Oldroyd similarly was an effective runner and receiver. They had to be held in check. But too much of the time they . Most Alert Play Senior guard David Ayotte pulled off the days most alert play when he grabbed a punted ball right out of the Bobcat receivers hands to give Box Elder possession. And there were fumble recoveries by Nelson and end Kelly Morrill. Defensive back Dennis Peart thwarted another Sky View TD drive when he intercepted a pass at the goal line. But the most thrilling moments of the contest for the local gang came in the third quarter when Brian Williams took a SV kickoff deep and ran to the SV-4almost breaking it. On the next play, veteran tailback Phil Adams went left to score Box Elders lone touchdown of the day. A running play for a pair of extra points was stopped short. Beat in Every Phase In the final analysis, Sky View simply beat the Bees in every phase of the game. They defensed the Hive offense to a standstill while producing a brand of scoring fireworks that wouldnt be extinguished. Flammer was as good as any QB the Bees have faced. Box Elders inability to penetrate and put pressure on him left the signal caller free to pinpoint his passes off or run the option. It was the major difference between the two clubs. And now the Hive guys must ready for another tough Region One fracas a Wednesday date at Roy at 3:30 p.m. The game is being played early to accommodate the annual Utah Education association con- ference in Salt Lake City. The Royals figure to be a hard nut for Box Elders grid crew to crack. Hunter Safety Class Will Begin Monday Skirted Left Side to Oldroyd pass got Sky View to the BE-1- 8 early in the contest and on the next play, Flammer skirted the left side to score. It was that simple. Box Elder shut them out a couple of times near the goal line but by halftime, the hosts had mounted a 14-- advantage as Flammer rambled the final 12 yards for a second TD. The third period was a nightmare for Box Elder. The Bees came out fired up for the contest, holding Flammer and company to minus two yards in two plays after the kickoff. But on the third try, Flammer found Oldroyd all alone in the secondary and the speedy hauled in a pass and outran everyone to paydirt. That was the play for Box Elder. Less than two minutes later, Flammer fired a scoring strike to Tingey in the endzone. A Flammer 0 A final reminder is issued that a hunter safety course will get underway at the Mantua rifle range on Monday, Sept. 25, beginning at 7 p.m. The course, final one slated here before the general deer and pheasant seasons, is sponsored by the Box Elder Wildlife federation. Tie Cougars Another TD And with less than another two minutes elapsed, Oldroyd scampered 26 yards for another Sky View TD. Reserves recorded the final Bobcat tally early in the fourth period as junior quarterback d Kim Hail connected on a scoring pass to split end Howard Little, another junior. After each score, tailback Bruce Allen, another favorite receiver, was booting extra montonous with points precision. It wasnt all gloom for the Bees. There were some moments of sparkle. Bob Farnsworth turned in some fine defensive plays against Tingey, one stopping a sure touchdown. Another junior, Burke Nelson, helped stop a goalward march deep in Bee territory on some strong linebacking play, and senior letterman Frank Muir was perhaps the most con six-yar- Intcrmountain V i t grid coach an Smith hit the nail right on the head Wednesday when he s ud the Eagle-Couggame would he a close one. The first and second quarters were scoreless on the Navajo field. Both teams came close but were held, and left without a score. Union broke the freeze in the third quarter with a TD and then ran the ball over for the extra point. This kept the Intermountain fans on the edge of their seats until the fourth quarter.
