Now I dont know whether a grasshopper is classed as a bug but I cant stand them. I get nervous when I see them jumping around. I guess its the feeling of one clutching at you when it takes off after landing on you that I hate. Its funny but some of the most vicious looking insects are the least harmful. Take the praying mantis for instance. Webster describes it as a carnivorous, long bodied insect with large eyes and swiveling head, that stands with its forelegs folded as if in prayer. Doesn't that sound weird? I thought so when I found one perched on the bathroom curtain one morning. Yet, they are perfectly harmless and classed in the insect world as beneficial. Just brought it up to prove that some things look worse than they are and I read once that Too many folks go through life running from something that them." isnt after I'll bet one of the safest places your house is that old easy hair you sit in to chat with me i . The company expressed considerable interest in the area as far as labor supply and geographic location and instructed their US , to pursue this Combined Trip Outside of the business nature of his trip, Topik also combined it with a pleasure trip. He visited relatives in Sweden, where he reports that the country is enjoying the highest living and social standards in Europe, yet with a similar tax structure. Of East Germany, he reports that it was extremely difficult to enter the country and that the scarcity of commodities and service with coupled bureaucracy tends to 'make people spend a good share of their time waiting in lines. "Generally speaking," he reports, "the people appear d and complacent." Contrary to West Germany, up until recently there has been wgll-dresse- very little reconstruction inasmuch as Germany is entirely self supporting and has been playing reparations to the Soviet Union until a short time ago. Sego Lily camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers will meet on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Jeanetta Olsen, 128 South First West. All members are urged to be present. It was also observed that all natural resources and in- dustrial output are used by the USSR primarily for their benefit. Even though all newspapers and literature are strictly censored, there is great emphasis on education, and organized youth and sports athletic activities. Huge stadiums are visible, everywhere. Contrary to our system, he reports, they are not affiliated with an educational institution but are subsidized by the state. Despite the fact that tourism in the countries behind the Iron Curtain is much encouraged, the impression gained by Topik is that the people are very isolated from their Western neighbors. Professional people, businessmen and particularly young people are very interested to hear about the positive features of America. Their papers are masters of reporting social ills in America but not mentioning the strides in technology. It was interesting to the local businessman to obseve clean cut, youngsters in blue jeans listing to rock music and enjoying American jokes translated into their native tongue. Topik reports that because of the population density there is very little home ownership as we know it In this country. He commented on the immaculate appearance of apartments with flower boxes on their balconies. Even though the trip was well-trimm- tremendously interesting, Topik remarked, "It reaffirmed my faith and appreciation in our freedom and way of life for which many people throughout the world long dearly. 4 PAY SALE SUM., HON., TUES WED.
