Linda Munns, representing the Utah State university rodeo team, copped the crown with 1,230 points in the n competition. She finished the season fourth in breakaway roping and fifth in goat tying in the nation. Outstanding ball was played and great sportsmanship was displayed. Both pitchers pitched very well and right down the line. Fireballs, Tigers Win In Willard League Fans saw two wide margin games this week in Willard WBBA action. The Fireballs beat the Lions, 11 to 2, and the Tigers downed the Wildcats, 10 to 4. Team Pitchers Mark Maxfield and Neal Braegger pitched for the Fireballs, and Shannon Spencer, Scott Tucker, Jim Dalton and Kent Nebeker were on the mound for the Lions. They won both games, pitched the seasons first shutout, and were selected to have their game broadcast by Radio Station KBUH. News and Journal Rockets 6 0 On Monday, June 26, the News and Journal shut out the Rockets as pitcher Brent Gray went all the way and allowed a single by only two hits Garth Smith in the first inning and a double by his younger brother, David Smith, in the fifth. Gray had ten strikeouts and allowed only one walk. The Rockets were unable to get a runner past second base. The N&Js scored one run in the first inning when lead off batter Gray singled, stole second and third, and came home on an overthrow. The pitchers game remained a battle until the bottom of the fifth when the N&Js broke loose for five additional runs on hits by Gray, Ron Webster, and Garnel Mathis. Doyle Russell pitched great ball for the Rockets until he got in trouble in the big fifth inning. The most outstanding field play of the game was a leaping catch by Norman Higgs in deep centerfield. Higgs fell to the ground after the catch, but managed to hang onto the ball. Scott Nicholiasen each hit a single.
