Brigham City Patrolman Stephen Peterson, who was called in as a backup man, to help make the arrest described the incident. He said the highway patrolman stopped the suspect at the post office for drunk driving. The officer and the man talked for a few minutes and the trooper told the suspect to get in the patrol car, according to Officer Peterson. The suspect then turned and walked away, he said. When Trooper Mecham tried to detain the suspect, the scuffle started. Patrolman Peterson said he and Trooper Mecham tried to control the man, but were both thrown to the ground.
