Show Open House to Honor Couple Mr. and Mrs. Clyde B. Stratford of Brigham City are to be honored by their family on Sunday, Nov. 29, on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. All relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend an open house to be hosted by their children at the Artistic Manor, 15 South First East, Brigham City, between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m. on Sunday. Since their marriage in November, 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Stratford have resided in Brigham City. He was first employed with a bank here, and later operated a retail furniture store for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1959. He has been commander of the American Legion Post No. 10, president of the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce and Rotary club, chairman of the local planning commission, a member of thz Board of A- djustment committee, Republican County chairman for three years and a delegate to the National Republican convention in San Francisco in 1946. ' Church Activities He also was chairman of the finance committee to raise funds for building the original h LDS ward. He has served as a teacher in YMMIA and Sunday school, and first counselor in the Sunday school superintendency for three years. The son of Jesse George and Stratford Roseltha Ballantyne Stratford, he was born in Ogden and is a graduate of Utah State university where he was a member of Sigma Nu social fraternity. Mrs. Stratford is the former Nadine Dunn, daughter of E.W. Dunn and Marion Whitney Dunn, all residents of Brigham City. She has been president of the Civic Improvement club, American Legion auxiliary, and the American Association of University Women, AAUW state federation historian, and active in the LDS church where she has been a Sunday school teacher, YWMIA teacher and Relief society literary teacher, and has been a block teacher for 20 years. She is a graduate of the University of Utah and a member of Pi Beta Phi social sorority. The Stratfords are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Thomas E. (Marion) Hillis of Berkeley, Calif, and Mrs. Donald W. (Barbara) Brown of Boise, Idaho. They have three grandchildren, Richard S. Brown, Michelle Brown and Ross W. Brown, all of Boise, Idaho. They stopped overnight in Las Vegas and saw the show at the Tropicana and spent a night at Roy Rogers Apple Valley Inn and toured the interesting Roy Rogers museum. They visited Knotts Berry Farm, Palace of Living Art, and spent two days touring Disneyland. On the way to San Diego they visited the Lion Country Safari which is an hour and a half drive, and stopped in San Diego where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ferguson and spent one with former evening Brighamites Mr. and Mrs. Wes Shirts. They visited Tijuana and on the way home stopped at the Lawrence Welk Welkom Inn. One night was spent in Boulder City and they drove around Lake Mead. SCRATCH PAD ever Right now the Editor children have developed a tremendous interest in the inner workings of machinery, with the result that several old items have undergone critical surgery performed by small hands wielding screwdrivers, plyers and hammers. Of course, the family had already gone through the phase where small boys have pocketsfull of screws, nuts, and other such items each time their trousers go into the hamper. At first the Editors wondered where the items originated--befor- e the closet doors fell from the runners, knobs fell off dresser drawers and doll furniture fell apart at a mere touch. Soon, however, there were few available screws in sight and the boys had gotten to the point that they knew better than to operate on family appliances. What Makes It Tick? The first big opportunity arrived recently when the leg fell off the old clock that Little Miss has been treasuring in her room, despite the fact that it was a discarded item from the Editors bedroom after it began keeping time irregularly. It was treasured for some time, until Little Miss invested d her stamp book for an enormous clock of her own that ticks so loud the Editors can hear it from her room as they watch television in the living room. So the little clock underwent surgery and resulted in a number of new toys including the ornamental brass bell stuck onto a lever to make a new top, some cogwheels strung on thread to make a mobile, and a picture formed of a meuntcu clock face and hands hard-earne- Locomotive Next The boys have diligently searched the house, not finding businessman owner of South Dick Dicks Texaco at 179 Main, received a state award from the Civic Improvement club on Thursday, Nov. 19, during the club meeting at the Community Center. The award was an attractive wooden plaque with an engraved brass plate presented in recognition of the remodeling project which won the local station the state's first prize in the Business for Beauty contest sponsored jointly by The General Federation of Womens clubs and the City Service Oil company. Parsons remodeling included facing the station with stone, building a new canopy, replacement of pumps, and addition of planter boxes at the business location which is on a major intersection in Brigham City. The award was presented by Mrs. Leon Packer, club president, who also announced that the club received an award of honor for entering the local service station in the state competition. It is a state and national project of the General Federation of Womens Clubs to improve the environment of and the communities, Business for Beauty contest is aimed at cutting down visual pollution by encouraging businesses to improve their appearance. Merlin Jensen of Smithfield, who are on an LDS mission in England, and are Mr. and Mrs. Fenton H. Waite of Hyrum. Mrs. Lenora Holmes and her daughter Mrs. Elma Conners of Torrance, Calif, will travel to Logan where they will be guests on Thanksgiving of Mrs. Holmes grandson and his wife Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Holmes. She gives 12 years to develop love for our children before turning them into teenagers. Now me, Im thankful Im a grandmother.
