Show 2 BOX ELDER tribe might consider too that its just compensation for the sacrifice they make on their dads birthday. You see, at our hogan, the person having a birthday is privileged to choose the dinner dish. As a result, on those important dates, we look forward to eating such epicurean treats as curried chicken, spaghetti and the like. My favorite dish is liver and onions. It always prompts such considerate quotations as: You dont want liver and onions again.. .do you? NEWS, Brigham City, Utah Sunday, November 22, 1970 Now, Lets Do Better Its good to live in a community that has a winning image, a city that sets the pace in terms of progress on many fronts. Brigham City is such a place. And an area of endeavor which has helped to fashion our reputation is that of beautification. Brigham City has probably reaped more respect and positive publicity for its landscape improvement efforts and achievements in recent years than from any other single source. THIS TIDY AND COMPACT community of just over 14,000 population has always been known as an attractive and inviting place with its d streets and residential neighborhoods. tree-line- well-groom- ed Capturing four national beautification trophies in the past five years has only served to . . . by Theres an editorial Bruce life. Gosh, it seems no matter how belabored with woes we may become, there is always cause to give thanks for many things. 01 Pow Wow would like to give thanks for Thanksgiving Day. Seems like its about the only time our family dedicates itself to being together. enhance this image. THE CITY HOPES AGAIN this year to win another trophy. And as indicated in a front page story today, well have further opportunity to share our success when Mayor Olof E. Zundel narrates a colored slide presentation at the National Beautification Congress in Washington, D.C., Feb. ;Win or not, Brigham City is far from having reached the end of the beautification trail. True, weve been singled out for awards but the fact is, d the city is still plagued by lots and "streets, junky yards, deteriorating houses and sheds and a multitude of other eyesores. 21-2- 3. Even though the kida holler and scrap, run through the house and make such a fuss that often its difficult to hear the TV football folks, I love it. Of course, were very WITH ALL OF OUR achievements, weve only made a start on the job that needs to be done. Why talk about it now with winter coming on and a successful summer behind us? Because now is the time for planning and laying up a store of determination to make next year, the most productive landscape improvement 'period in local history. And we dont mean this merely to qualify for more awards. Most importantly we want to make our town a, better, more attractive and pleasant place in which to live. We want to build on the present high level of pride, stimulate more citizen involvement. Brigham City, ya done good. Now lets get busy and do better! Its A Time For Gratitude t What is Thanksgiving in this year 1970? Is it bemoaning the failures of a troubled world? Decrying inflation, a rising crime rate, violence in the streets, drug abuse, etc.? It could be, if one chooses to dwell on the unpleasant realities of life. But in our house and so many others across this broad Jand of America, talk and thought of adversities will be put aside in favor of a family gathering and renumeration of our many blessings. WHEN THOSE EARLY settlers observed the first Thanksgiving, theirs was not an easy time. It was fraught with the challenges of a new world and a new life. And yet they lived in gratitude for the scant necessities which enabled them to sustain life. How much greater is our reason to give thanks as we enjoy a standard of living unparalleled in world history. There is time enough to concentrate on our problems. But as Thanksgiving day approaches, let our thoughts focus on the good things of the earth and the bounties provided by a beneficent God. Stop Poisoning We agree that dogs can be a nuisance, both when they bark incessantly, disturbing neighbors and when allowed to roam free, tipping over garbage cans, digging up flowers, killing shrubs, etc. The owners of such animals should realize the obnoxious situations they create. And the city animal control program should effectively enforce the ban against dogs running at large, an assignment which a number of citizens have complained is not being adequately handled. HOWEVER, REGARDLESS of the shortcomings of inconsiderate owners and municipal control efforts, there is no excuse for pet poisoning as was reported recently in the Liiid- - Va S. 41' say Park area. We say this first because it represents a threat to children who might unknowingly fall victim to the poison and second, because it is an inhumane act. The person who would use such tactics obviously is more of a threat to society than any poor pooch whose master permits it to run loose. is gathering "Project Navajo momentum in Box Elder county.
