T Elder Turns On Offensive Power To Defeat Spartans Box Led by fleetfooted Terry Shio, Box Elder capitalized on the breaks Friday afternoon to ovei whelm the South Cache . Spartans. It was the greatest offensive showing put on by the Bees In five games. Coach Earl Fergu-so- r used a seniors, a like number of jqniors and four soDhomores in the contest. The clash had no bearing on since Region One leadership Logan clinched the title with a vicloy ove Bountiful on the Griz-zli-e field Box Elder and South Cache r standplayed to a still on the Sparton field. But midway in the second peiod, the Bees took advantage of a fourth-dowSpartan holding violation to set up their first score. Infraction Called With sophomore Chris Pella running at tailback and Stuart Tracy operating from the fullback spot, Box Elder was held short of a first down on its own 42. Junior ar.d Vertis Anderson punted but a Spartan player was called on the holding infraction giving Box Elder the ball on the South Cache 45. Pella caried for eight yards, Tracj picked up five more and then went to quarterback as sophomore Verlin Smith took hi place in the Bee backficld. In two plays. Smith galloped td the 20. Then after a pair of plays gained only a yard, Tracy toon a handoff from Pella and romped ove the ight side to scoe. The kick for extra point by Delbert Tingey was blocked. Intercepted Pass Shio, who played beautifully all afternoon, both on offense and defense, intercepted a Spartan pass just before the half to stop a South Cache drive which had gone to Box Elders 35. With only a minute gone in the third quarter, Box Elder recovered the second Spartan fum-gl- e in the game. Tingey had kicked olf to stat the half and then fell on the hobbled ball as it bounced around on the South Cache 42. After being set back five yards for illegal motion, Shio, who had been shifted to tailback, raced aound ight end and down the sidelnies in a scoing jaunt. It proved to be the games longest run. Tingeys kick fo rPAT was wide. South Cache Tallied On the next series of plays, Souch Cache tallied its only touchdown. Halfbacks Terry Nederhauser and Cecil Lindley combined running talents as the Spartans moved to the Bee 38 in seven plays. Neidcrhauser then took a pitchout from quarterback Wes Bitters and skirted left to score. Halfback Pete Kendrick booted tne point after. Box Eiders final touchdown 18-7- half-doze- n first-quarte- n Brigham Man 18-- 7; at Bountiful Named New came afte Trrcy dropped on a Spartan fumble at the South Cache 34. A combined personal foul and. offsides penalty against Box Elder moved the pigskin back to the Bee 45. Reeled Off Long Run Lewis Jones, ' speedy junior performing at wingback. then reeled off the games second lon-berun as he swept around the left side on a reverse to the line. Smith and Shio punched to the three from where Shio rammed over for his second TD. The pas3 from center was bad, foiling the try for extra point South Cache came back and was on the Bee seven-yaline when time ran out. Outstanding man on the line for Box Elder was veteran Randall Tyson who used his 202 pounds to good advantage in stopping the South Cache runners. . Was Third Win The win was Box Elders third in Region One play against three losses. Ironically enough, thn easiest win for Box Elder this season came at the expense of Logan which hasnt lost a game since.
