Show IER 22, 1977 Rhyme & Reason CHRISTMAS ROUNDELA Y Mama stayed up late on Christmas Eve. After the excitement of our party Papa always read the story from our old Family Bible. Then prayers, and off to bed. Sissie and I wiggled with expectation warm in homemade quilts. Later Papas rhythmic breathing underscored Mamas humming. Mama made peaceful sounds; hasting the turkey singing a carol to each stocking she darned while rocking by the fire. Sleep slowly overcame our anticipation of tomorrow; But always before Mama went to bed. ; By Kolette Montague This Christmas Eve we have had our party fead from the old book, and said prayers. I tucked the girls in listening to their last Ben snores, content to know his Christmas deeds are done. And I, I baste the turkey, take one last look at winter-cris- p night and hum carols while I rock knowing that the magic of Christmas is forever cradled in a little girls heart. giggle-whisper- s.
