Mp)ffiPfe Around certain parts of the county this weeks Layton and Bountiful football game is being called the Super Bowl Pat Shaw and Dave Anderson while the Braves boast Steve Rudd, Dean Layton, Scott Kinnear, Tony Smith and Ron Hammer. Both have good size and speed. THAT title might not be too far off as both clubs come into two top defensive clubs in the region on the same field. By DAVE WIGHAM of high school football. THIS game also puts the the contest with excellent clubs. Bountiful is in sole possession of first place in Region One but the Layton team is right behind with only one loss, that being to the Roy Linebackers for the Lancers, Wyne Kittrell and Ron Atkinson and the Braves, Kent Palmer, Larry Hale and John Hazen, are some of the best in the region. The defensive backs of the Lancers, Sam Gallegos, Rick Snow and John Eccleston are faster than the Braves, but Bountifuls Kevin Waters, Paul Taylor and Jeff Anderson are tough against the run. club. By comparison the Braves downed Roy 19-- 0 a few weeks ago. IPS tough to pick a winner in this game because of the balance on both clubs. Man for man they are too close to call. No matter which team you are cheering for, or which is your favorite, there is no way you can argue the fact that the clubs are evenly matched. In the quarterback department both teams have ex- NO MATTER which way you look at this game the teams are very evenly matched. A break will decide the outcome of this ball game, as it has done in almost every cellent leaders with the Lancers going with Ben Bubak and the Braves with Chris Davies. The Bountiful team seems to throw the ball more than the Lancers, but that might change this week. RUNNING backs for both clubs are excellent. Maurice Turner of the Lancers is probably the best of the bunch but the Braves Bill Wernli and Kyle McKay are a couple of excellent runners. The other back in the Lay-to- n scheme of things is Todd Stapley who is a fine runner in his own right. The main difference in the running game thus far is that the Braves alternate plays with their backs, you dont know which one of their backs will get the ball, while the Layton team seems to go to Turner a lot more than Stapley. IN THE receiving department the Lancers have a great end in Rick Snow, he is faster than any of the Brave receivers, but the Braves mix up their passes with about four or five top receivers. Players like Scott Pendleton, Scott Irwin, Steve Toolson and McKay have all been on the receiving end of passes. In the trenches both clubs have some awesome folks with Layton going with the likes of Wade Gillespie, Chuck Ehin, Brandon Flint, whichever team plays on top. TEffi . 12 oz.
