Operation: Rescue What would happen if this situ- ation happened to you or your family? A group of four people went camping at a lake in the Farmington Canyon area. Two of your group went off on a hike and never returned. After searching ha area you were unable to locate Jie missing persons. Who could you turn to? The Civil Air Petrol mit in your area. This was the situation presented before the members of the Layton Composite Squadron Cap on Friday evening. Result: A full scale search was set up. The Mission Comm ander, CCapt. Spencer Sandstrom, had his groups organize and check their equipment. The Search and Rescue team under the direction of CLt. Wesley Moore and base camp director, Cadet Sandra Christiansen, began organizing their teams. Lt. Robert Hickman loaded his field radio equipment into his station wagon and the group proceeded in convoy to a likely camp sight about 4 mile below the first of the Bountiful Peak lakes. By nightfall a full camp had been established, the radio equipment checked out; and everyone was ready to proceed the next morning at daylight. Breakfast was served by the girls of the CAP under the guidance of Mrs. R. H Christiansen. The rescue team was coached in methods of searching by Senior Member, Henry Ouellette. Other cadets under the direction of Lt. Hickman set up radio contact and made last minute checks of the SCR 511s owned by the squadron. While this was going on. They also were instructed to direct the rescue teams to the targets, if the ground teams should go too far afield. The second plane was piloted by R. G.
