Thomas Smart Jr. purchased the bunch, paying 1 50 for them. Mr. Westover, of Mendon, was exhibiting a freak in town on Saturday, in the shape of two calves, which were united, Siamese-twi- n fashion, at the breast, in Buch a way that when one animal was standing the other, would be lying on its back. The animal, or animals, whichever you have a mind to call it, possessed two hearts, which were connected, but had only one pair of lungs and one liver. The freak was dead when born. The schoolchildren of Clarkston tendered their teachers a very pleasant little surprise on Thursday. The teachers were invited to the school house where they were astonished to find their pupils assembled and everything in proper shape for having a good time; and a good time they had. A nice luncheon was served, and then the usual festivities followed.... Each of the teachers received a handsome present, the gift of their pupils. One of the schools has been closed, but the others will continue in operation for some time yet. Every spring some of our citizens plant lawns, or their pastures, and usually in ' the fall you hear them complaining of the unclean seed which was shoved on to them, their lawns and pastures being full of weeds. Of course all seed isnt clean, but that is no excuse for planting unclean seed when, by taking it to Orson Smiths Elevator on the Island, you can get any sort of seed cleaned for almost nothing. A great deal of seed has been cleaned there this year, and no one who has had any work done complains of it, nor of the treatment received of the gentlemanly manager, Mr. David Roberts. A.
