Merry Christmas" to their generous benefactots. Unfortunately, 1 had a terrible experience in my graphics art class this week. Graphics art is a class I have wanted to take since my sophomore year. I havent been able to take it until now because of full classes and schedule conflicts, though. I wanted to take this class because I thought it would be a great change for me and to be completely honest 1 wanted to take a class that wouldnt be too much work. When I first entered the class, the first thing I noticed was the people attending. I did not know any of them personally, all of my friends are those who too are also in advanced courses. This did not bother me though. But there is a group of young men I am disgusted in. Their blatant disrespect for the teacher and their peers has alarmed me. After the class, furiously I vented to my best friend; never want to take a general education class again: I just want to stay in AP or Calculus with decent human I JL 3 Naples Elementary students take turns putting their rolled pennies in a donation basin. New reading books will be bought with the grade substitute teacher from another country. The bell rang for class and the substitute began giving the students instructions and explaining the current situation. That group of boys walked into class late while she was talking, interrupted her and made some wisecrack. The teacher was very polite, started over for them, and told everyone that they needed to work on the assignments and no computer games were to be played until 15 minutes were left in die class period. Those boys, of course, would not do their work and were very rowdy and noisy. The substitute asked them repeatedly to quiet down and do their work, but as you can assume they did neither. Because they did not cooperate for qu.te sometime she asked them their names and they proceeded in trying to trick her by giving the names of others who were not in the class that day. After she finally got their names straight they laughed at her speech and made racial comments. I was fuming; 1 wanted to apologize to the woman and scream at the boys. I w anted the substitute to know that these imbeciles are not a good representation of die student body, and hopefully not of the class of 2004. Throughout the end of the class the boys continued to do tilings like play music which she had asked them not to do. Their immaturity was at an obvious peak this past week. I am though, very disappointed in mv peers. 1 can not believe the lack or respect and ignorance that they posses. I am not quite sure whom to blame though. Is it their fault or are they the products of ignorance themselves? Should we blame the parents of the students? The father of one of these boys is an administrator in our school district; I have expected more from him. Do we blame our teachers or administrators? Is it because they allow this behavior? do we blame the students themselves? I still cannot believe that people like this will be grad uating and going out into the world this year. Individuals such as these contnbute to all of the "hate and ignorance in this world, contributing nothing productive to society. All I know is that students such as these rum much for students as myself. I cannot wait to go to education where I will be with respectable students who want to become outstanding members of our community. JILLZUFELT Venal -- |
